I have to admit, it wasn't obvious to me what "conventional eggs" meant. However now that I know, I suggest people just stick with alternative eggs anyway.

I really don't think the factories that cram chickens into tiny spaces to mass produce diseased eggs should be referred to as conventional. Fifty years ago, much of the food we eat now would have seemed like something out of a sci-fi nightmare.

Ironically, 30 years ago, chickens roamed around the yard, and laid eggs conventionally.  Nowadays, in order to lay them conventionally, they have to be in a cage.

Don’t get me started on the chickens with white privelege who lay WAY more eggs than chickens that lay minority eggs.

sounds like you've not been educated on egg colour. as always, i'm here to help:

The Difference Is in the Chicken

When it comes to hue of the egg, the key lies in the breed of chicken. In general, white-feathered chickens with white earlobes lay white eggs, and reddish-brown-feathered chickens with red earlobes lay brown eggs. There are also breeds that lay less commonly found blue eggs and speckled eggs.

Are Brown Eggs Better than White Eggs?

The color of an egg is not an indicator of quality. When it comes to taste and nutrition, there is no difference between white and brown eggs. Despite the fact that they're often more expensive, brown eggs aren't any better for you than white eggs, and vice versa.

Do Brown Eggs Have a Harder Shell?

The shells of both color eggs have the same thickness. If you've ever noticed that an eggshell seems tougher, it's because of the age of the chicken, and not the color of the egg. Younger chickens tend to lay eggs with harder shells, while older chicken lay eggs with thinner shells. This is true of both white and brown eggs.

Why Are Brown Eggs Often More Expensive?

There's a perception that because brown eggs are more expensive, they must be more "natural" or healthier. That's not necessarily true. Brown eggs tend to have a higher price tag simply because the reddish-feathered chickens that lay brown eggs are larger than the breed that lays white eggs, and as such, they require more feed. That extra cost is offset by — you guessed it — a higher price at the grocery store.

One Small Caveat!

There is one small caveat, however. If you've ever eaten eggs from home-raised chickens, chances are they were brown, and you may have noticed they tasted slightly richer or had a more vibrant yolk. There's a reason for that.

Many of the chickens commonly found in backyard coops are brown egg-producers. But it's not the color of the egg that accounts for the better taste. Rather, it's the feed that was given to the chicken. Feed plays a big role in the color of the yolk and taste of the egg.

So pretty much. They are all yellow on the inside so don't worry about color

Thanks, but I happen to know quite a bit about eggs.  The brown eggs are more expensive because they (the minority chickens) are subsidized by the gubmint.  The eggs are not of any higher quality (unless they are free-range, and that is true across ALL species of chickens), but command a higher price because they are PERCEIVED to be better.

You also didn’t mention the three species that typically lay blue/green eggs.  Not sure if this is your attempt at discrimination, but I can assure you that though their eggs tend to be less common, the Araucanas and Ameracaunas and Easter Eggers deserve fair representation.

And on the tinier end of the spectrum, let’s not forget the Bantams.  Sure, their eggs are usually ignored due to their small size, they are actually just as valuable, and should not be relegated to the category of worthless.  Due to their small stature, bantams tend to be good flyers, and will often roost in trees to avoid predators when the larger breeds (egg color not respective here) tend to roost much lower and are easier prey. (Low-hanging fruit, and all that).

It’s also interesting to note that the WP enjoyed by the white chickens of the world is also their demise; they are slaughtered every single day in massive numbers (see also: Genocide), whereas the CoC (chickens of color) tend to be left alone.

brown eggs are subsidized by the government?

i don't eat green eggs, sam i am. i have standards. penny eggs i can deal with, but they're a bit tricky when used for baking.

if you want to see some disgusting chicken slaughter; watch food inc.

Don't need to watch it; been there, done that, have two t-shirts.

Wanna try tricky? Boil and peel a couple dozen quail eggs!

And for some neat scientific fun, grab an egg as it is exiting the chicken, and your fingerprints will forever be etched in calcium. ;)

ETA: Oh, and no discussion would be complete with talking about soft-shelled eggs.  Kinda nasty to the touch.  But I try not to discriminate against those chickens which tried and failed to lay a proper egg.  Trophies for everyone!
