Wouldn't Cohn resigning be a good sign that Trump's proposed tariffs are a step in the right direction?

"Foreign officials viewed Mr. Cohn as a reliable ally on global economic issues and as someone who could express their views to the president."

China cautioned that it was prepared to “make an appropriate and necessary response” should the United States impose the tariffs.

“Choosing a trade war is a mistaken prescription,” China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, said during a news conference on Thursday in Beijing. “In the end, you will only hurt others and yourself.”

"Step in the right direction" - Towards what exactly?

The tariffs will probably help the US Steel and Aluminum industries (short term vs long term? It's not my area of expertise so I don't know) but ultimately will likely hurt many other US industries due to increased cost (Motor vehicle industry, Oil and Gas industry etc...). That is without taking into account retaliatory tariffs from other countries/groups. If Europe, China and others respond in kind, how will that really help us exactly?

It seems to me if most foreign people are in favor of Cohn, there is a reason, and that reason is likely not in THEIR nest interest,  not that of the U.S.

Just guessing.  I know less about the industry than I know about being a doctor.

Ok, now I know how it feels to type on a phone.  Won’t be mocking NB anymore...

Should have read:

It seems to me if most foreign people are in favor of Cohn, there is a reason, and that reason is likely in THEIR best interest, not that of the U.S.

U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt told CNBC on Wednesday his company will reopen a steel plant in the United States due to President Donald Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.

"We're really excited to be able to tell our employees in the community in Granite City, Illinois, that we will be calling back 500 employees," Burritt said during an interview with "Squawk Box."

The company will restart two blast furnaces and the steelmaking facilities at its Granite City Works integrated plant in Illinois. The restart process could take up to four months.

Burritt said the facility had been idle since December 2015 because of what he called unfair trade practices. "If you don't have customers here to sell to and you can't make money, you have to shut them down," he contended
