police clearance

Hi My husband has filed a I-130 petition and we have received our NOA1 and are now waiting for NOA2. 

My question is about the police checks for applying for the CR-1. The info says that you need a police clearance from every country that you have lived in for more than 6 months. my husband and I met whilst studying abroad in Italy i was there on and off for a few years but left the country a leased every 6 months, that is never more than 6 months at a time. do i need a police clearance for this time?  will a series of shorter visits stack up to equal living there?

If you've lived in Italy for 6 months or more you need a police clearance from Italy as well. Even though it was a couple of years ago.

Could anyone advise on this extended question to OP.

 

If you changed your name in another country that you now live in, would you need to do a police background check in your old name and not your new name? (Considering there's no registered information of your new marital name in said country if you haven't visited it since your marriage but lived there over 6 months).

I Guess my real question is,  do I need one if it was more than 6 months cumulatively but never in one visit? or can i omit it because the stays were always less than 6 months.

It's 12 months continuously unless it's your country of residence or birth.

Visiting is not residing or living in.   However, if you are showing Italy in your address history on the DS260 visa application that will come later, then you'll need that Police certificate.  If you didn't live somewhere else, then that's where you lived.  For example.  I "live" in the Philippines.  I don't live anywhere else.  BUT, while I"m a tourist here, I'm also a registered alien with two Philippine bank accounts, a lease, and utility bill in my name.  For US Immigration purposes, this is where I live.  If I married an Australian woman with the same status in the Philippines as I have, we would both be considered "residents" of the Philippines.

Have you mentioned anywhere in documents that you met in Italy ? No ?
