You have all the choice where you want to be interviewed since you said you can legally live as a tourist in canada for 1.5-2 years(i dont know the canadian’s eligibility for you to become a resident) but if not you can still have your home country.

You need to be residing...  you do not need to be a resident

https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/

here it says with status, if that means tourist counts as status then probably no problem, but Canada embassy used to say

Specifically country of residence(page seem to change)

for me to be able to apply in japan I am asked to show my residency card, even when I applied for tourist visa.

Of course a tourist qualifies as status.  If you don't have status you are illegally in the country

YMMV

Well then no problem.

they just didn't let it happen in Japan's US embassy. In japan, there's no extension to a tourist visa like that unless you get out of the country so it doesn't count exactly as residing.

Same here in hongkong. You will be asked for an identity card(hk id) during the interview.

Every country is different, so that is why generalities or another country's answer is not appropriate.  A specific country answer to Canada is required

YMMV

And you were explaining that with 100% certainty in Canada cases?

cause  answering as  residency and residing is different was Canada specific.

In every country it is residing for more than 6 months.  In many countries you cannot meet the standard without being a resident.

YMMV

Perfect explanation! Thanks

now other countries just like my case won't read it and think it is applicable in everywhere.

Tourist means tourist. It does not mean resident. I’m pretty sure you cannot interview there because you are not a permanent resident. You can start all the paperwork and everything and stay there as long as you can/want but you will have to go back to your home country for medical and interview.

It seems to me that this thread is full of misinformation...the future immigrant must have legal residency (not as a tourist) in a country to interview for K-1 there.
