Hi, I am in the same situation. I made this account just to post on this thread...

I have been preparing relentlessly for my fiance's interview at the Jamaican consulate in Kingston for MONTHS, and I can't BELIEVE I hadn't realized his ganja smoking would be a problem until now... when it's far too late to get clean.

ValerieB - what ever happened with your fiance's medical exam/k1 visa???

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_in_Jamaica

"In February 2015, Jamaica's legislature voted to amend the nation's cannabis laws:[9]

... Practitioners of the Rastafari faith may use cannabis for religious purposes"

He will check "yes, uses ganja" on his medical form (if there's a test there's no way he'd pass anyway) and then write in "for Rastafari religious practices" ...

I live in California so it's legal here, and it's legal for him (religiously) there... maybe the combination of that will allow him to be granted, despite the our federal law in the US?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant so I do NOT want to have to wait a year for him to come here. Honestly he would fall apart if he had to wait that long and not smoke weed that entire time as well. A disaster.

Has anyone had an experience where a frequent weed smoker was granted a k1 visa from Jamaica?

Right - what you want and what's going to happen are two different things so prepare for that. Federal law trumps state law on marijuana use.

I am thinking I should cancel/reschedule his interview (and obviously his medical exam). I am still researching people's testimonials and it's not looking good.

To think, I spent this whole year stressing about maintaining my income during covid so that I could sponsor him.......................

Hello All,

I have a question about weed and if it may or may not impact the results of a medical exam. I've searched google up and down to see if i can secure an answer for this but there isn't a black and white answer.

Jamaica  made weed legal in 2016. Although one of the best things that attract tourist to Jamaica is weed.(Immigration, government, the world knows)- and of course ALOT of states in the USA has decriminalized weed. My Fiance smokes weed, interview is this month. Will the use of weed impact the medical exam results in a negative way and may burn him from getting his visa. What do you guys think? If there is anyone doing a K1 For Jamaica i would love to hear thoughts.

What happened with your fiance's visa, Valerie?

Her account is closed. If you look in her profile you will see that her account has been closed since 2018.

And a word of advice, usually people don't return to give updates unless it is good news. We rarely hear updates about the really tough cases and struggles afterwards.
