Has anyone renewed their drivers license in Atlanta with Expired GC and NOA? 

My GC expires on April 27th, so does my drivers license. I read on GA DDS website (here: https://dds.georgia.gov/information-non-us-citizens?con=1741471757&ty=dl) that they will only issue a one-time 120-day extension on current drivers license, but ..well it apparently takes at least a year now to get ROC approved..

And does DMV staff really know about this piece of info? 

I guess I just wanna to hear about more people's experience on this matter.

Your expired green card in combination with your valid extension letter constitutes "valid immigration documents." In addition, you should have an unrestricted SSN, so you will ultimately be fine. It may not be easy - some DMV employees don't understand how it works. Just stay calm and move up to a supervisor. I've heard stories where the immigrant provided all their information and the DMV employee sent that information up the ladder all the way to USCIS and got them to verify status. The person in this situation had to come back the next day. 

 

After that extension letter, you can get the I-551 stamp in your passport, which also constitutes "valid immigration documents."

GA DDS is weird, they recognized I 551 stamp but an extension letter is like a grey area... so I am going in for an infopass see if they will give me a stamp even though i just got my NOA letter..

the last time i went to DDS was when I moved in October, I asked them about it and they told me it will be extended to what its on your extension letter. But who knows things might not be the same. Im going prob near end March for renewal since I just renewed in October.

I visited the Forest Park DDS.

Went to my infopass this morning. The officer was very nice and he was very very  certain when he told me DMV shall issue me a one-year DL . Hope DMV thinks that way too.

My husband used his NOA last year to renew his license.  Problem is, DDS made the expiration date 1 year after the NOA date instead of 1 year after the green card expiration date.  Due to this, we are now in a situation where his license is about to expire when his 1 year gc extension hasn't even expired yet.  So DL expires 3/24.  We have infopass for 3/26.  GC extension expires 4/10.   I guess we'll just have to get the i551 stamp and then go renew the drivers license just to turn around and do it again when that stamp expires.  😩

Adding on to my post, no issues with renewing ID, expiry is a year as of the greencard expires. I have confirmed with GA DMV, even after your extension letter has expired, they will still renew your DL according to what you have. (like the stamp) But i'm not sure if the stamp has a date though.
