K2 under 14 AOS/EAD/AP packet rejected - wrong fee? Why?

Hoping someone might be able to let us know why USCIS rejected K2's AOS/AP/EAD packet? We filed the I-485 concurrently with the I-765 and I-131 and enclosed a check for $1140, as the K2 is under 14 and not filing with his parent (parent, the K1, is awaiting the 10 year green card). This was stated in the cover letter. After waiting nearly a month, we received the package back with three rejection notices (one for each form - I-485, I-765, I-131) that each stated “The payment amount is incorrect or not provided.” Any idea what is going on?

Thank you!

Sorry, I am just editing my message below! If an applicant is under 14 then biometrics fee should be waived.

I believe that you should have sent a check in the amount of $1225 ($1140 for I-485 filing fee as well as $85 Biometrics fee).

Confirming/clarifying that for our case biometrics are not required because K2 is under 14. We are scratching our heads . . . no idea why the packet was rejected for wrong/inadequate fees. Any ideas from other VJers?

When is the bday? If i was you i would resubmit it with a 1225 amount. 85 dollars isnt worth a rejection when its such an important matter. I know people who would pay 50,000 so $85 is trivial.

Could be the age is too.close or maybe even an error on the person who recieved the files. Good luck

Overpayment will cause a rejection, too. The payment amount must be exactly correct.

Well 1140 caused rejection why not try the only other payment amount? To send the same twice is insanity

I called and spoke with a Tier 2 USCIS Officer who was also surprised that the package was returned. She checked three times with someone else during the course of our conversation and recommended I resubmit with $750, which is the payment if submitting AOS together with a parent. The rationale she provided was that even though the K1s AOS was completed in 2015, the K2 was a follow to join and therefore would be considered applying at the same time. Seemed odd to me, but I have resubmitted with the $750 and will update this posting once we either receive a notice or acceptance or another notice of rejection for wrong payment . . .
