that is not for us to question how they live their life, OP was here to ask a question, granted it took time to get all the information, how they pay for it is not the question.

Actually it’s a very important point to raise, because many people from other countries have no idea how expensive healthcare in the US is, especially for old people. We see in these forums regularly people who have sponsored their parents suddenly realizing what a massive financial burden it is, remember someone coming in at retirement age can never get full Medicare etc because they haven’t worked any of the required 40 quarters, they can get some with expensive premiums... Healthcare in old age can end up costing hundreds of thousands dollars easily for such people. It’s not impossible that the green card application is refused on public charge concerns either.

seems like a valid question re someone close to retirement age
