So I don’t know if this is a factor or not I applied for the k-1 fiancé visa recently and I’ve been reading horror stories about people who failed the drug test because they were around second hand weed smoke... I haven’t but my mom does smoke and I live with her and when I hug her often she does smell like marijuana... also my brother has smoked across the hall from me when he lived here but I haven’t had direct contact with weed smoke. Could I still fail the test?

As a Nurse, I have personally never seen a verified case of THC detection in urine after casually being around 2nd hand MJ smoke.

Do they only do urine if you aren’t a drug user? I’ve heard people get hair tested what does that mean

If you truthfully answer "No" to the Drug use question, there is no need for worry...in fact, I'm not sure they even test for THC routinely.

I guess it's possible to be exposed to enough second hand smoke to have it detected in some tests, but these would really be the extreme cases...not typical exposure to an individual who uses it.

Just be honest and you should be fine.

Even in the tabloid Daily Fail’s sensationalist article on it, they detail the kind of exposure you need to test positive... unless your mom has shut you up in a tiny unventilated room with her while she chainsmokes one joint after another of the most potent cannabis she can find, and you are tested immediately aftewards, you should be ok ;)

Six smokers and six non-smokers spent an hour sitting side by side in a 10-by-13-foot, acrylic-walled room in two different experimental sessions.

Each smoker was given 10 high-potency cannabis cigarettes to smoke. In one session, the room's ventilation fans were turned on.

In another session, the fans were turned off, and the room became smoke-filled

At the end of the exposures, smokers' and non-smokers' blood, urine, saliva and hair were tested at regular intervals for THC.

All six non-smokers who spent an hour exposed to second-hand smoke in the unventilated room under extreme conditions had detectable amounts of THC in their urine and blood.

Four hours after the experiment ended, one non-smoker tested positive for THC on a urine test.

At intervals between two and 22 hours after the experiment, four of the six non-smokers tested positive for THC in their urine at a lower cut-off sometimes used in commercial drug testing programs.

None of the non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke in the ventilated room tested positive for THC.

Non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke with fans running reported no effects other than being hungry.
