Hi all,

I'm a March filer and have a question about  my situation, hoping someone here knows something about it.

My husband who is American accepted a 3 year overseas assignment which will be starting in October this year.  He'll be back to the US after that.

I've been a permanent resident since 2009 (marriage base), and filed N400 on March 6.  The expected case completion date of my case is March 2019.

Biometric is done but the interview hasn't been scheduled yet.

My question is, do I need to reside in the US until I officially become an US citizen?

I REALLY want to go move to the overseas country with my husband from October and come back to do an interview and oath.  Does this work with USCIS?

It's just a pain to be one ocean away from him for a long period of time that I don't even know how long it's really gonna be:(

P.S. Since I became a permanent resident in 2009, I only went overseas one time (5 days) in 2011, so my travel history shouldn't be a problem.

Please let me know if you know something.

Thank you !

Hi there, the case completion date is not accurate and does not reflect the actual processing time. Most probably you could be a U.S citizen before October. However, there is a chance it could take time. I have attached a link of USCIS manual for the U.S citizen and spouse living abroad. https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartG.html

Thank you so much Name O Boy for finding the information that I needed!!

I just read it and I don't think I understand all of it, but unfortunately, I think my husband's company doesn't meet the definition of the "qualifying employment."

I guess the American spouse has to be working for American company/government to take this advantage, but unfortunately, my husband works for a foreign firm...:o  I'll show him the link when he comes back from his business trip.  Maybe he'll find something I missed.

Thank you again, Name O Boy! Wishing you a speedy process!!:D

You are welcome. I am pretty positive you would be a U.S citizen before October. If not I would suggest you wait for a while and complete your citizenship process. This is going to make your life so easy and you are almost there. It's the final exciting journey :)

Congratulations! It’s such a great news!  You were guessing you would get your interview scheduled between 6/20-6/25, and you got it just right!
