My conditional GC expires on June 31st, and I've made an infopass appointment for next week to go get the stamp.

The infopass appointments in my city are really hard to come by, so I jumped on the first one I found within the 30 day window before my GC expires. Hate having to give up my GC though. But, gotta follow the process.

I am thinking to get the extension stamp in the second week of June. You should start looking for an appointment now because you have to schedule 2 weeks in advance, best wishes.

They might not confiscate your GC. It depends on the field office. I understand it's not fun to wait, regards.

I just read a couple of posts regarding officers turning away folks saying they got to come in after the expiration date is past. Ugh😩

Hmmm that's highly unlikely. It might have happened to someone but it's an exception. They will absolutely entertain you and give you the extension stamp if you go there a week or few weeks before your GC expiration. It's hard to get the appointment so I don't think so they will turn you away, until or unless you show up 2 or 3 months before your GC expiration. You could still get the I-551 stamp even that long before if there is a valid reason.

They gave my wife's expired GC back to her after they stamped her passport

Oh interesting! Well, let's see what happens. I just hope they don't turn me away like an earlier posted mentioned. This will be about 3 weeks before my GC expires. 
In any case, my field office is literally a 10 minute drive from my workplace so it's not too inconvenient to have to go back another day.
Also, I discovered that if I look for an infopass appointment at about 7:30am, I almost always find something available!

Yeah, early morning is the best time to find empty slots. They are being filled up quickly later in the day.
