Thank you so much @oncliffs for fixing my entry!

I also wanted to share my experience with stolen/lost green card.

It was stolen or lost on March 3rd, 2018 and I immediately noticed as all of my credit cards were gone too

and applied for a new one online ($540, I-90 form).

I'm supposed to travel abroad in May 2018 and need I-551 stamp in my passport so I tried to make an appointment for USCIS at the Federal Plaza in NYC,

but there were no appointments available online. I did walk in, but they couldn't help me. Since my trip is in May, I didn't qualify for an emergency appointment (must be 2 days before the flight) I made an appointment in Hartford, CT which is 2-3 hours drive from NYC, took a day off work. Anyway, they couldn't help me either, and told me to go back to NYC. Frustrating! I finally managed to book an appointment in NYC online in two weeks time.

There isn't a lot of information about 1-551 stamp online. Does anyone have experience with it? How long does the appointment going to take?

I also finally applied for my citizenship, that's why I'm in this group as I really don't ever want to deal with lost green card again right? ;-)

Btw, it was okay to apply for n400 with a lost/stolen green card, it didn't matter. I had a copy of it.

Why do people mail them in when you can do it online (where they can flag up errors and ensure that your submission is correct) and it must be much faster to submit, not to mention not having to go through the hassle of mailing. I"m honestly curious why all applications aren't required to be done online these days?

And yet they apply on paper and then get upset when they find out that online applications move faster (in part because contractors don't need to type everything into the system). As to your question, this is a free country.

Some people are not very technologically literate and are more comfortable with paper, I suppose.

I could be wrong, but maybe the lawyer prepared ones are still done via paper?

Maybe they don't trust filing anything online or assume it's more difficult to do. I knew people still prefer filling paper tax returns instead of e-filing.
Online filing also saved me money. I would be spending at least $50 to have my N400 delivered next day to a lockbox.
