Hi guys.

I have my medical examination tomorrow in London, and I'm a bit concerned because I've been unable to obtain any medical records from before my current GP, which I've been registered at for three years.

I've been hounding my medical practice for weeks and weeks to the point that they've got seriously annoyed with me- but it hasn't changed anything. They still haven't managed to get hold of my past medical records.

I'm just wondering if this will present a huge problem tomorrow? I have evidence of my Td and influenza vaccinations- the only ones that I have no proof of are MMR (which I have 100% had) and Varicella (which I don't think I've had, but I have had chickenpox?).

Obviously it's too late to reschedule the examination at this point. And even if I did that, I can't guarantee that my GP will manage to access my past medical files any time in the near future.

Does anybody have any advice?

Hi,

Please don't reschedule your appointment. that's not a big deal, infact you don't have to worry at all. I was in the same boat 2 years ago, and on my appointment I've had a proof of Flu shot :D only. they gave me 2 options, either I can go back to my GP Practice and get all the shots again and provided them with a documentation or I can get shots from them again and ofcourse they will charge me for that and mind you it's expensive from them.

I knew from GP I'll get free, It's NHS :) so I went back to GP got my shots and I emailed them documents and I was good to go.

Best of Luck !

Hopefully you have one of those NHS health summaries from you current GP and they will take that. Wait for them to bring up anything prior to that. Then tell your efforts to gain additional info.

I would suggest you insist on a MMR shot tomorrow at Knightsbridge. It will be cheaper and quicker than getting the blood titre to check for immunity. They won't take your word except for chickenpox. No, you would not have had a Varicella shot. Not a UK immunization requirement. Also your Td has to be within the last 10 years.

The clinic will likely tell you that you can go get your MMR at your GP and use that for AOS. Yes, but that will require you to see another doctor (civil surgeon) in the US to sign off on MMR. They often insist they need to do a full medical. You could easily be out $300. Avoid the cost and hassle later by getting signed off on your immunization form by Knightsbridge. You can not simply mail your doctor's immunization record to USCIS. You will have to deal with a civil surgeon if you don't get signed off tomorrow. Make sure you ask for page two of the immunization form where they note you have met the immunization requirements.

What is an NHS health summary? I haven't heard anything about that.

Most practices can generate that print out that covers any issues you have been treated for or lack of issues by being pretty blank. Knightsbridge does not want your actual records. At this point, just go to your medical and if they want something, they will tell you. Too late to fix it now. You will have to get anything they request later and send to them.

Thanks. Is that something I would need to get a doctor's appointment for, or can I just ask for it at reception? I could potentially try to get an appointment tomorrow morning before my exam.

Unlikely you've had varicella vaccine if you've always lived in the U.K. It's not routinely given in the U.K. - there are a few exceptions. They will take your word for it that you've had chicken pox and wont ask for proof. Often there is no proof that you've had chicken pox (save a blood test) as most parents don't take children to the doctor with chicken pox unless it becomes very severe. Likely you were just treated with a bottle of calamine from Boots.

It's a clerical thing so probably doesn't require the doctor. Didn't you get something from Knightsbridge saying what to bring?

No. When I called to book my appointment, the receptionist only asked if I had a police certificate.

I found this list online:

which is why I've been trying to access my medical records.

No, no email! I don't believe they even asked for my email address.

Anyway, everything went well yesterday. I got a last minute appointment with my doctor yesterday morning and she printed me off an NHS health summary and wrote me a letter confirming that I'm not a risk to myself or others. With both of those things, everything was fine. I got a new MMR and tetanus at the exam thanks to the advice on here! :)

You pulled it all together last minute. Much better than a lot of people manage. Well done.

Hi Heather Janine, did they write you a letter confirming that you're not a risk to yourself or others because you have previously suffered from depression?

Hi! I'm currently taking medication for anxiety and depression, and since that was something I had to answer "Yes" to on the questionnaire, I thought it might need clarifying.
