Hi,

We have received NOA2 on 15th February and waiting for further process for NVC to send the case to the Indian consulate at New Delhi.

Meanwhile I have a question how to take my pet dog from India along with me to the US (California) after K1 is approved? I have a 13 year old Lhasa Apso and I don't have a clue how to go about it. If anyone can share the details.  like process involved etc, would be very very grateful. I have other questions like most important "will it be safe", if anyone can guide it share experiences would be great.

Thanks much 😊

First find a good airline you want to carry it with. (I used delta to carry my 2 cats in the cabin and have no complaint)

then check if your pet can be carried in the cabin.

Then check what is necessary for you to leave India with a dog (airlines want health check etc of the dog, some countries even want their own airport animal control to give approval)

then for california, you need rabies vaccination. Go to cbp website and learn what they want for dogs, and also check what California wants specifically from your dog. Because every state has different policies.

lhasa apso as far as I know is a snub-nosed dog. So you need to research about the risk of carrying snub-noses animals in planes. Some carriers won't even let them in.

I carried a snubnosed cat this winter, from Japan to California. I carried her in the cabin because snubnosed animals should not be left in cargo. When they panic or feel stressed they cannot easily breathe because of their nose.

The cat had no problems and now living happily without me (😭) in California.

Unfortunately, immigrating a dog into the USA isn't as simple as finding an airline to travel with them but don't worry it's still relatively simple! I've linked the website of CDC regulations for immigrating your pup.

https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html

There is still a possibility that your pup could be held for quarantine but it's unlikely.

You might just want to visit your vet to make sure that it will be safe for him to travel with you. Flying for dogs, especially older dogs and longer flights, can be very stressful and only your vet will be able to tell you whether or not your pup will be able to handle it and remain healthy!

Here is another link you might find helpful:

I hope everything goes well and you won't have to part from your fur-baby!
