I have a question about ssn.. from what I've read on here it sounds like people are applying for it after they enter the u.s but from what I've read online it says I can't apply for one until I apply for AOS and have a work permit. Can I do it now?

Here is a link that should explain about the SSN: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm

When you apply for AoS, on the work authorization form you can request for them to give you an SSN and it will save you some trips to the SS office.

In GA, you have to have an SSN to get a driver's license (told to us by the DMV), so now we are waiting until the card comes in the mail. That's the only reason we wanted to go ahead and get the card was for driving purposes :(

from the link above:

"Lawfully admitted noncitizens can get many benefits and services without a Social Security number. You do not need a number to conduct business with a bank, register for school, apply for educational tests, obtain private health insurance, apply for school lunch programs or apply for subsidized housing. You cannot get a Social Security number for the sole purpose of obtaining a driver's license."

Two weeks after my fiance's interview we still have no notice. I emailed the embassy and got the standard response, sigh:

Thank you for your email.

The application is pending for additional administration process. Once the process completed, we will inform you immediately.

We are now one month after my fiance's interview, and we still don't have an approval yet.  It is definitely frustrating.

You know, you don't have to be so entitled about it!  It's hard work, drooling on your desk or taking naps or checking Facebook on your phone instead of processing your caseload.  Have a little understanding for these poor folks, sheesh.

(...you have to laugh about it or you'll cry.)

Very true !!!!

Most recent update, I've just received emails from the Jakarta consulate that they have received my package. They also emailed my beneficiary with a list of things she needs to do, but she hasnt received a packet yet. Any idea how long she can expect to wait before receiving packet 3?

The email was packet 3.  My fiance never received anything other than an email from the embassy.
