Quick check in to say that today was my fiancée's interview at the Auckland embassy. She said it was quick once they actually let her in, she showed up early and they turned her away the first time. Also, make sure you have your interview letter, she said that they were turning people away in front of her that didn't have it. She said that when she actually got to talk to the CO, he only asked a few basic questions, what I do, how we met, how I proposed (she said she gushed about how cute it was, I'm dying from mortal embarrassment cause I was jetlagged and I dropped the ring and gave up and was just like 'uhhhh....so.....wanna get married? I mean, if you want? it's cool if not! No pressure or anything!'), things like that, then asked if she minded answering about if it bugged her that I was married before, and to a man. She explained that no, it didn't, that she and I both knew we were bi before we ever started dating, and that was it. She said she was told by the CO that she was 'approved but that's not an official answer as per rules' and she'll receive her stuff in 1-2 weeks, and that'll be when she knows for sure, and that her medical expires in October, so she'll have to be over before then. I'm nervous, from what I've read a lot of people are given an approval at the time of interview, but I don't remember really seeing any 'yes, but it's not an official answer' stories. ::quietly panics in the corner::

Just FYI, don't panic if AP takes a looooooong time - sounds like you'll be fine, but my husband's medical from CityMed arrived the day after his interview at the consulate and we were in AP for like a month.  I think the Kiwi work ethic expands to the U.S. embassy as well...

Don't panic - it is pretty common. In our case, my fiancé's medical was the week before his interview. So they hadn't received the papers from his doctor yet. They basically told him the same thing - everything looked good and as long as they receive the papers from the doctor, he'll be approved. I believe it was the following week when they received the papers and he got his passport back with the visa in it within a week.

Do you know if they took her passport?

Håll ut, y'all.

They did keep her passport, they said she'd have everything back in 1-2 weeks. Just that 'it's not an official yes cause rules say I can't say definitely yes here and now' comment by the CO that's giving me worry lol

She says they had received her medical, which was our worry cause she was only able to get in a week before the interview for her medical, but Christchurch was real fast with that turn around! XD

Then I definitely would not worry. If it was an outright decline, they would not have taken the passport. :) Taking it and wording it the way they did sounds as though they are just waiting on something to be finalized, or perhaps some kind of paperwork to be received, before they can actually issue the visa. The 1-2 weeks sounds about right. You mentioned a concern with it become done before October, I believe it was, in your last post - I think it's safe to say you shouldn't have to worry about that being an issue.

For reference.. my fiancé's interview was February 22 (medical had been week before on the 15th). That was a Thursday. Embassy received his medical papers, which is what they needed before issuing his visa, the following Tuesday. He had his visa and passport in the mail that following Monday and booked his flight home to the states that week.

If you guys have monitored the status of your case prior to this online, you should still be able to at this point. I think his case still said something about processing, and then I guess it was whenever they received what they needed and approved it, it changed to "Issued" a couple days before he got everything in the mail.

Question. Does the affidavit of support need to be submitted before the interview or taken as part of the documents to the interview? Also online my case says ready. Can my fiance go ahead and schedule for an interview?

Affidavit is taken to the interview.

In regards to scheduling interviews- that is embassy specific and we can't really help you since your timeline is not updated.
Check under your country's forum and see what the procedure is for interviews
