But I would think that they give you date options and not just randomly schedule it. Especially for people that don't live close to the embassy. For example, here in Brazil we live in Sao Paulo but the immigrant visas are done at the consulate in Rio de Janeiro only. So we need to fly there. There is another case in this forum where the person in in Cuba and the visa interview is done in Guyana.

Maybe the consulate in Rio does it differently where we get to choose a date of the interview from the consulate/embassy system.

Nope, you don't get to choose your interview date for CR1, they will pick one for you.  Now, I think you can request a date change once you have a date assign by no, you don't get to pick your initial interview date.

Carlos, in Brazil they also give you the date randomly. If you can't attend, then you can ask to reschedule it. Only for K-1 visas you can choose a specific date for your interview.

Hey good to know! Do you know how much notice you get before they schedule the interview in Rio?

Usually 3-4 weeks before your interview, so you have time to plan yourself to fly to Rio and get your medicals and fingerprints done. The current timeline for Brazil is after Case Complete they take 30-40 days to book your interview, and then 3-4 weeks till then. So, after CC, count around 2 months from it to your interview.

I suggest you to find our brazilian IR1-CR1 group on Facebook. We're always helping ourselves and sharing our timelines. The group is very supportive, even with tips to where to stay in Rio, fees of the clinics, etc. Look for "Visto de Esposa/Spouse Visa IR-1/CR-1 Brazil/USA".

Thank you so much for this info! This helps me plan better with my husband as I am in the US Air Force Reserve and next month I will be away from Sao Paulo doing my Reserve duty for two months in Germany. We are lucky that we both live in Sao Paulo so this makes the wait/process a lot easier.

I will look for the Facebook Brazilian group. Thanks!

Wonderful. Wonderful.

Why they hold it for 18 more days before sending is beyond me but at least it's an indication things are happening and mine will be sent soon.
