Hello all! My fiance has his K1 and is moving to the US later this month for our wedding in one month. I was trying to decide what to do about a honeymoon and always dreamed of going to the Caribbean? Can he go to Puerto Rico? Is that considered leaving the country, since it is a common wealth? Obviously if it is an issue, we don't HAVE to go there. I was just curious. Thanks!

I think you can, however, make sure the flights do not have any kind of layover or connection outside the US....

Yes. Puerto Rico is part of the USA. Due to the high number of illegals from the Dominican Republic wanting to come here, CPB sometimes check driver's licenses or other documentation before you board, so take your Passport with you (in any case you need i for ID purposes at the airport). Make sure if it a non-stop flight or if with a connection, the stop is only within the 50 states

On another note, the US Virgin Islands is also US Owned.

I would recommend pending the honeymoon for a few weeks until the AP/EAD card arrives then plan to have a great time anywhere you want to go.  That's just me.  I think leaving and re-entering on a K1 (which is a one-way trip essentially) is risky.

From the link above:

Entry requirements for non-U.S. citizens are the same as for entering the United States from any foreign destination. Upon departure, a passport is required for all but U.S. citizens.

Update: When my fiance and I went through border patrol to enter on his K1, we asked 2 officers who both said Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are domestic flights and it is perfectly okay to go!

Did you end up making a trip to Puerto Rico after entering on the K1 (before receiving advance parole)?

No, we ended up going to Alaska instead because we were afraid of hurricane season.

My fiancé and I were thinking the same trip, I read this thread and have read across the internet and the thing I find is nobody who actually went to PR on a K1 and back and no direct answers from CBP...yeah a little worried.
