1. So my wife (U.S.C) obtaining PR status in Canada will have no affect on the IR1 process? If it helps, She's planning to move back to U.S. and start a job before my interview for IR1.

2. Wouldn't the interviewing C.O ask why did she apply for the Canadian PR if she never intended to live here long-term? Of course, it would be a moot point as she'd have moved to U.S. at that point and would have a job there but I do not want to risk it.

3. We applied for Canadian PR because we wanted to have 1 country where we could live together (can't live together in India) in case our IR1 isn't approved. Would explaining that in case we are asked why my wife accepted Canadian PR be advised?

We have to make a decision whether or not to accept the Canadian PR within 24 hours. Any advice is welcome.

@pushbrk  @Lemonslice @NikLR Sorry for bugging you guys but my wife and I need to make a decision soon as stated in the comment above, and if you are seeing this, please consider replying. Again, I have no right to demand a reply but you guys have been so helpful to me in the past and we highly respect you guys' opinion. Hopefully you can find the time to comment.

Thanks!

1) you can apply, but you cannot maintain both.  It takes a year to get PR status in Canada though as a spouse of a Canadian citizen.  Unsure of the timelines for PR of Canada spouses.

2) the Canadian IO?

3) okay... well do whatever you want to do.  I have a personal opinion related to Canada being a "stepping stone" to the USA since I'm a Canadian citizen... I'd rather not get into it honestly.  I'd live in Canada if I could stay married and do so.

I am Indian citizen my wife is an U.S. citizen. We went to graduate school in Canada and now live and work in Canada on work permits. We have applied and successfully obtained Canadian PR invitation. We just have to "land" and activate our PR status. We would renounce our Canadian PRs when we get our IR1 visa to U.S. approved. We just want to make sure that my wife, an U.S.C accepting Canadian PR would have no negative consequence on our IR1 visa process. Can you please provide your opinion on this matter, possibly based on previous cases here if you know any?

No, the U.S. C.O at the IR1 interview.

I understand where you are coming from. But believe me as much as we love Canada, we can't stay in Canada forever unless it was our only option to stay together (compelling personal reasons). If we have an option of moving to U.S. , which we do, we'll pursue it.

Thanks!

People move, they have back up plans, there is nothing extraordinary about your story - many people in my friends and family have lived in a few countries troughout their lives.  In our case, we always knew we would only stay a few years in the US and then move on (which we will do soon) - it is called "permanent residence", not "locked down forever"  - it does not prevent you to change your plans later on.   I doubt they are going to ask you, but if they do, just explain what you have said here.  More importantly, make sure your wife has plenty of proof of her domicile in the US.

Best of luck.

Zero issues honestly with your usc wife having pr status.  I doubt the us co will even question it or care.

Thanks! But I'm not a Canadian citizen. I'm an Indian citizen and my wife is a U.S citizen. We both live in Canada and have been invited to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. :)

Yes on 2 and three.  Tell the truth.  If she moves back to the US, Landed Immigrant Status in Canada is a moot point.  Frankly, it's a moot point anyway, in the context of US Immigration outside of her domicile issues.  Actually being domiciled in the US, make the domicile issue moot too.
