Applying for unrestricted SSN while pending ROC

Hey guys,

 

any advice about applying for unrestricted SSN while the ROC is pending? Can the NOA I-797 notice of action be a valid document to apply? Thanks so much.

If I recall correctly, I went to SSA with my 2-year green card in hand, along with the restricted card. I explained why I was there and I didn't have an issue. I received the new unrestricted card in the mail a couple of weeks later.

Interesting - I had no idea about restricted SSN. How to figure out what kind of SSN do I have?

It has text on the card saying "not valid without DHS authorization" or something like that. You get this version if you apply for EAD, I think.

My SSN is 11 years old - my guess is they did not have all these categories that time, even DL had regular expiry date similars to US citizen. After few years - they started restricting DL expiration as per immigration documents.

These restrictions go back decades - before 2001 it was "Not valid for work without INS authorization"

Also, your DL expiration date has everything to do with the state that you're in. Some states restrict to the end of immigration status, some don't.
