My husband had his interview since November 28th but was issued form 221g to submit original documents... After those documents were gathered, he had to wait for an appointment date to drop off the documents which was January 30th...his passport was given given back to him and was told that nothing else is needed and he is almost at the end and they will call him....gave him another 221g form stating that case is under administrative review and he will heard from them within two weeks to nine months. Is this normal? More especially there's no status update.

It’s never good news when they give you the passport back. Sorry that’s not what you wanna hear. Maybe contact the embassy for more specific reasons why.

Thanks. I have seen lot of people who they've given their passport back and call them to pick up their visas. As per case, I don't see any problem that will hinder my husband from getting his visa.

How can they pick up their visa from the embassy if the Embassy doesn't have the passport?

giving back the passport does not mean anything bad. Sometimes, they give back the passport then they will call him and ask for the passport for visa isuance. hope your husband will gt his visa soon. keep faith. do not listen to any negative comments.

Good Luck.

They need the passport in order to issue the visa. Until they ask for the passport back the case is in administrative review. Usually when the passport is returned it is because the officer knows the case will take time before it's completed and it allows the person the ability to travel.

Some countries take longer to go through AP as they do additional background checks. Not sure which country the OP is from.

Some people file a congressional enquiry to see if they can find out the reason for AP. Most consulates will not provide details other than you just have to wait.

don't let anyone to put you in fear embassy giving you back your passport doesn't mean is denials. All applicants under AP means your visa has been issued but the Embassy want to do their own background checks on you after their background check they will call you to bring your passport but if they find out anything against you they might send your visa back to USCIS for a special review. No one should get panic at this stage AP is never a visa denials it is only a delayed.
