Funny thing.  A few months back I decided to do my ancestry DNA.  Was sure that my family origins were primarily Italian, German. and English.  Turns out the majority of my DNA history is from Ireland/Scotland/Wales, which they say is distinctly different from Great Britian.  I had no idea.....

Those DNA tests are cool, but apparently not 100% accurate. My brother saved me money, he did the test. I always believed I had some Jewish ancestry,  turned out 80% North African ( what is that?) ,  %10 middle Eastern ( not defined what) , 5% Senegal and 5% not sure.

What a test like that don't catch is that Jews have been living for over 3000 years in North Africa, and North Africa is are a mix of different races... European, Jewish, African, Middle East.

Fun to do it, but defenitly not 100% accurate.

A DNA test was unable to find Jewish religion in your brother's DNA?

I was surprised just how accurate they were at finding my relatives.  Several cousins had also done theirs and it picked them up and accurately identified them as first and secnd cousins.  Had my mother do hers and showed parent/child relationship without any input on our part.

So Ancestry basically has ownership of your DNA forever now. :P A particular sticking point that makes me only do traditional genealogical research. For years we used to think that my dad had to have Italian in him. All research blew that theory out the window. Irish on his dad's side, but based on tales we've heard about - they were likely Scottish undesirables that were dumped in Ireland after the English weren't too successful in murdering them.

Religion isn't traceable through blood tests, but I'm willing to answer your question if you ask it without sarcasm....

I'm kinda tempted to take one, just to see if my brother and me would have the same outcome ( that would be something if not...) But then again for 100+ dollar I can buy those nice heels I wanted for a long time.

I always how far it goes, how much it can pick up. My mother in law did one and it showed something like 3% Persian... She looks more like German or Scandinavian.

That's basically my best of it as well. The Feds already have my DNA from serving, so nobody else needs to have it I think. I did pay for the upgraded premium ancestry.com membership for a month and was able to trace the majority of my ancestors back to England with a minority of them from Scotland, Wales, and Germany. What was great was that I saw a copy of the ship record showing my direct ancestor as a passenger on the ship to VA  in the 1660's as a indentured servant.

Now, now... let's not stereotype. ( )

I, albeit a non-expert on the topic, am aware of several provinces in the country under discussion:

     1.  Blue Wales -- home of natives experiencing hypothermia from having underdressed during cold weather

     2.  Killer Wales -- home of the warrior class, not to be trifled with

     3.  Sperm Wales -- home of those responsible for much of the Welsh DNA on ancestry.com

There are certainly other population variants that I am sorrily uneducated about.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

How genetics plays out is interesting. With identical parents the test results between you and your siblings might vary.

That's something I haven't thought about, it makes perfectly sense though. Two of my siblings have curly hair  and dark skin like our grandmother, another has straight hair like she Asian or Indian. We used to call her Pocahontas as a kid because she looked exactly like her. I'm in between. So I can see how that can give different test results too.

Pocahontas?  That's racist AND reported.

I've seen weird results from these things.  Identical twins that supposedly are not related, kids not from their parents, people who know (or at least think they do) their heritage finding out something completely different.

I knew someone was going to be snitching. :-p

Yeah, I think I'm not ready to find out weird stuff about my family. It's bad enough that we had to explain that we really have the same parents.
