Hello guys,

I'm in Puerto Rico with my K-1 visa waiting for my marriage certificate. I just got married 10 days ago, so it will take maybe another week here to be able to have my wedding certificate. With that I'll immediately apply to the change of status. So I have questions ...

1) Here in PR there is a "Immigration and Naturalization" department. Can I apply there instead of sending all to Chicago ?, will be faster ?

2) I have work permit until June 11th. And I get a really good job overhere. The problem is that maybe I'll receive my EAD after June ( saying that I send my package next week ). This is a extremely good job so I dont want to quit !!! ... They know about my legal status but I think they have forgotten ... so what would happen if I just close my mouth until I receive my EAD and continue working for those couple of months ?

3) For how long I can travel If I receive my Advanced Parole ?

Thanks and Regards,

Martin & Sarah

I can only address the work situation. I would just keep my mouth shut about the expiration of your EAD. It is unlikely you will be asked about it and there is really no penalty to you, as long as you have applied to adjust status or renew EAD. Let it be the employer's problem. It's not yours.

1. The I-485 instructions say that those living in Puerto Rico as well have to send their application to Chicago. Your interview (if you have one) will be at the local office in Puerto Rico, but the paperwork has to be sent to Chicago.

2. You aren't going to get much support for not getting a renewal EAD and just 'keeping your mouth shut' - there really won't be any repercussions for you, but it opens up the employer to getting fined, etc. It's not really going to be advised on here, but you can do it and (at this point in time) feel no ill effects. It doesn't affect the AOS application.

3. I know nothing about AP so I'll leave this for someone else.
