How does everybody go about the interview process, schedule a medical exam one week prior to the interview? Does that mean I have to visit the doc and return a couple days later for my results and then visit the consulate? what is the best hotel nearest the consulate?

Hi @Wipf D

It depends on how you want to go about the medical exam. My husband and I are going to schedule it as soon as we get our interview notice in Surrey since it's closest to us. You cannot get the medical exam done before your interview is scheduled. **Make sure you do NOT open the envelope that they give you.**

The link below has the approved list of doctors that can do the medical exam:

http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Canada&cty=Montreal

Another Visa Journey member did wait until she was at Montreal to do her medical exam. @acidrain

I've link her on here because she's been so helpful.
"From what I have read the Surrey office is more lenient with their exam than Montreal. Have you checked out the website? I know they have all their contact info on there too. The thing that royally sucks with the Montreal medical is you need at least 4 business days to get the results"

I hope this helps you a bit.

We are still "patiently" waiting for our interview to be scheduled....

Good Luck!

I don't think Surrey will work for us, can they still do interviews out there?

No. The only consulate in Canada is in Montreal, and that's were all interviews take place.

I meant that we are going to use the Surrey doctor to do the medical exam.

we will probably end up doing our medical out there right before our interview, it looks like that is the most common route. when did you guys receive your USCIS confirmation?

We would do the same except I don't have many days of PTO at my work. I want to be in Montreal at the time my husband has his interview, so we are planning on just being there for the interview. We are saving some days off for the actual move since we want to drive down from BC to Texas.

My timeline is below. We unfortunately haven't been as lucky as other Canadians on here. We are filed IR-1/CR-1 Spouse visa, but it took forever to get our NOA1 and after that our case was "pending" forever at NVC. Apparently, their system wouldn't assign a case number to our case it had to manually be done by a supervisor. After those hiccups everything seems to be running smoothly for us now. I'm just crossing my fingers we get scheduled for an interview in the next few days. We've been waiting for far too long.

Thank you for the tag @TX&BC. I am sorry you still don't have your interview! Your NOA1 was before mine! I started a thread that talked about my Montreal medical and you are more than welcome to take a look:

I detailed timelines as to when I got my medical done and results back. They say you should allow 4 business days for the results. For instance if you schedule your medical Tuesday they guarantee the results by 7am Monday. My results wound up coming back a little quicker for both my son and I.

For the first time I did an Air BnB and it actually worked out great! I didn't want to spend $100+ a night being in Montreal so I stayed in an apartment downtown. Everywhere is within walking distance. Even for my 5 year old and he loved it! Make sure to allow lots of time for traffic for your flight back. I could not believe the chaos at Trudeau airport. I got to the airport almost 90 minutes ahead and barely made the flight.

When I scheduled the medical they want to know exactly when your interview is. No interview = no booking your medical exam.

One thing I wish I did before I went to the appointment was get my booster Tetanus shot. That was $40 I believe and my son's flu shot $25. If you don't want to pay for them at the exam go to your current doctor and provide proof of the vaccination.

When I had my medical in Montreal October 3rd and the interview October 12th. My Mum and I stayed at an AirBnB in downtown Montreal within walking distance to EVERYTHING. It was so much fun and not that expensive and super nice to have an apartment to ourselves. We were there from the 2nd to the 13th. Only way I could do it since I was from Manitoba. lol

Are you planning on importing a Canadian vehicle? Did you already check that it's compliant and get a letter from the manufacturer?

We are not, but thank you.

We are going to sell the vehicle once we actually get approved.
