Where do we lodge?

My son is sponsoring my husband and myself and is filing the forms in Chicago. Must he lodge our 485 forms there simultaneously or must we file in the UK? How long is the whole process?

Are you in UK ?  Then he only files I-130 (is your husband his dad ? If not, was his stepdad before he (son) turned 18 ?) and process will take about a year.

We are in the uk and both his biological parents

Then you follow this http://www.visajourney.com/content/immigration-parents process. Will take around a year. Just to confirm - your son has to be 21 or older to petition for you and have enough income to sponsor both of you for his household size or get a co-sponsor.
