Hi,

We tried to change my wife's name after we got married but at the Social Security office the lady wouldn't let us. She said we couldn't change it until we got her green card. We got the green card but never got around to changing her name. We would like to change her name but we are worried about it affecting are ability to remove conditions on her green card. All are evidence is in her maiden name. So now we are not sure if we should change her name now before we remove conditions.  My wife read something about changing her name after we remove conditions but it would cost another $680 to send another green card with her new married name. So we were wondering if we could change her name now before we remove conditions so we don´t have to pay the money again with her new married name.

For anyone wondering about this topic. I just went ahead and changed my last name on my form of removing conditions, it worked and now my permanent green card will come with my married last name. I'm also simultaneously starting my citizenship paperwork and it'll all be with my married last name.
