Soon sweet lady I promise! Now I’m one tiny step ahead but still as inpatient. No use having a case number if they haven’t put your case in transit 😂

I know everyone says to call the NVC to see if they have received your case or assigned a case number, but is there any other way to know? Do you get any notifications by email, mail, etc.?

Hello everyone! Had a question.

I looked at the I-134 and in Part 1, Item 11.b on page 1, it asks about 'Citizenship or Residency or Status'. I got my citizenship as a child through my parents who went through the naturalized process. However, I do not have  'Certificate of Citizenship.'  Is my US passport enough to prove citizenship for this form or do I need to apply for a certificate?  That process (USCIS form N-600) could take months and will heavily delay the visa process.

No. You are not required to file a Form N-600 for a Certificate of Citizenship. The Certificate of Citizenship is an optional form. A validly issued U.S. passport generally serves as evidence of your U.S. citizenship during its period of validity unless that passport has been revoked by the Department of State.

However, you may be required to submit your Certificate of Citizenship when attempting to apply for certain other benefits, including, but not limited to:

  • Social Security benefits
  • State issued ID including a Driver’s License or Learning Permit
  • Financial Aid
  • Employment
  • Passport Renewal

Then I recommend that you not call for a couple of days (I recommend waiting about 10 business days, including holidays) and call again. This going to be a journey of patience. The one who has the most patience is the one who will enjoy the journey. Just saying.

The petitioner will get either an email or a hard copy via USPS. Could take up to 30 days whereas if you call then you can have it sooner. But if your Embassy schedules the interview date and not you then it really isn't going to matter if you have the case number because it's not going to speed anything up. Of course each Embassy is different and that is why I suggest you join your sub-forum to ask this kind of question or befriend someone who has recently completed processing their visa. Using the "Portal" tab above will lead you to a page where you can select your country and then on the right column you'll see others who just completed their interview.

I called NVC just now and they told me my case is a “special” electronic case 🤔 I have to press option 5 every time I called to get info or attempt to get a case number apparently because not all the agents have access to this type of “special electronic” cases so there are only a few who can provide info on this. She also told me it will take them up to 8 weeks to assign a case number and they will notify me. Although she did say that if I happen to call a day and they have the case assigned they will give it to me. Anyone has any experience with these electronic cases that can shed some light into how long it takes for them to assign a case number please?

They were just giving you the textbook answer - it took us (an electronic case/embassy) about 7 days after NVC received to get our number assigned and we were "In Transit" after a day. The speed of the process after "In Transit" hits will depend on your embassy. Don't worry too much :)

NOA2 March 19

Waiting now on NVC to receive our case and assign a case number, and wishing to bring over my Junebugs still behind @KBA @LydiaP @Lisa123 @Jabberwocky1969 @garylenhall @Katemdedo

@Martin3517 and inviting over @AnxiousCitizen to the next step of our journey.

Thanks for the mention .... not even thinking about this anymore. A rejection would not surprise me. RFE for a simple issue .. if we get rejected we'll just file again and give it another year.  I have a co worker whose husband became a doctor here, he was from China and they were already married. She waiting in China for 7 years, two rejections.  This system is garbage, pure garbage.
