If your parents or grandparents bought into a 1950s suburb, that investment helped them and in turn likely helped you. If your parents were denied access to that investment then you are likely hampered by that. It might be why you grew up in public housing etc.

white privilege is a symptom of structural racism. i hate the term because those that laugh about it believe that they're supposed to feel bad or guilty for being white. when honestly, if you present the concept without using the term, most people will agree in it's existence and negative effects on minorities.

So you think you are privileged because you are white.  That’s a pretty racist way to believe.  Personally, I feel that I should get ahead by hard work, not the color of my skin.  But to each their own, I reckon.

 yep, i'm totally racist. i think i should have everything because i'm white and i should have to lift a finger for anything. to each his own, why else would i be trying to explain white privilege to a bunch of white guys??

Sorry I have more serious sarcasm than that. You could not take half of my sarcastic remarks or jokes before cowering behind your SJ shield. This is what the Marine Corps has done to me because we are harsh on each other.

my sj sheild? lol. got a few marines in the family. one being my grandfather. you have no idea what i can take or the type of humor i'm accustomed to. cehst tos sort of takes that element out of play.

I know I am painting a broad brush but it was funny you know. A lot of you lefties just get frightened about anything that you find shocking or just don't agree with. Quite frankly I feel your more hardcore person who can take it as much as you can dish it out. Your comrades on the other hand would shocked and call me racist just for having a 3%er flag  in front of my house.

So back to this... I understand white privilege from an academic standpoint.  But can you honestly tell me how we enjoy things tha minorities don’t today?  The idea that “I’m white, therefore I am normal” doesn’t even enter into my thinking, because I have lived a fair amount of my life outside the US where I was the minority.  But I cannot think of anything I can do, or get, or whatever TODAY that minorities cannot.  100 years ago, that wasn’t the case.   50 years ago, it may have been possible to claim.  But today, I just don’t see where my white skin gets me more than someone of darker skin (other than their personal craving to have white skin like mine).

funny thing about broad strokes is it goes both ways..conservative/rw america are generally afraid of; whites being a minority, feminists, black panthers (black power in any capacity), socialists, socialism, islam, guns getting taken away etc etc.

matter of fact, that's how the op started, naming white fear of becoming the minority:
