I have "We approved your case" for AP since the 14th of August (PD 3 March 2018). My EAD is still on "We received your case" (PD 29 March 2018). I had to refile my EAD in March since I used an outdated form in my original application so I'm not sure whether it is considered as concurrent filling of EAD and AP still. Will I receive the AP right away (which I really need ASAP to leave the country) or are the waiting for the EAD to be completed?

That's a strange one. I haven't read about a similar situation on here before. Might be worth a call to ask for update, and see if they can tell you whether it will be sent separately or as a combo card. That would be very frustrating having to wait when the one is already approved!

We just got back this week from a trip with my husband using his AP. I wanted to share his experience travelling with it for you guys.

The CBP officer shared this important tip: AVOID CONNECTING FLIGHTS. Go direct if possible, and find out exactly what would be POE on your route.

In our case, my husband was flying Dublin > Vancouver > LA. We knew that because he was going to Canada first, he would not go through pre-clearance (Customs) in Dublin, but we stupidly did not anticipate him going through pre-clearance in Vancouver before his connecting flight.

Everyone entering on AP is required to go to secondary, and you just don't know how long that will take. He got very lucky, and the lines were short when he was going through. CBP officers were pulling people with less connection time (e.g. 45 min) ahead of him in line. He told them that he had two hours before his flight, but he showed that he was using his combo card. They said "Oh yeah, you are going to take a long time, get up here."

They took his customs form, fingerprints and photo, then sent him to secondary. He was in secondary for two minutes before being called up. They filled out some forms without asking him questions, looked at his EAD/AP card, made a copy of his passport, took biometrics again, told him not to do any connecting flights when travelling with AP, and then sent him on his way. We had made up a folder with copies of all of his NOA1s, marriage certificate, etc, but they didn't ask to see anything.

Hope this helps!

Oh that’s great info to know. Thanks! Out of curiousity, were you just travelling for vacation? I want to travel home to Canada to visit my family and introduce them to our new baby but reading my AP approval notices made me alittle nervous about re-entry.

Thanks!

Yeah, it does sound intimidating. I wasn't able to find a whole lot of experience on here before we left either , so I definitely wanted to share ours.

Yes, it was vacation. We went just to visit his family as well. He wasn't really questioned about his trip or purpose, however.

I would say don't be afraid to use it. They wouldn't grant it if they didn't expect it to be used. Just plan for enough time, and be prepared.

Another update: We were approved at our interview yesterday! IO confirmed our approval in the interview, and case tracker shows card in production.

It went very smoothly. I was very stressed about my I-864 and worried that we would be asked for a joint sponsor, because I changed jobs and became self-employed shortly after filing. It was not an issue at all.

Let me know if you have any questions!
