Hmm, I was giving Bernie the benefit of the doubt considering he got shafted from the collusion of the Hillary campaign and the DNC, but apparently he was colluding with foreign entities as well.  I guess this is standard operating procedure for the MDL.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) fined Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign $14,500 for accepting illegal in-kind foreign contributions from the Australian Labor Party (ALP) during the 2016 elections.

The ruling stems from a February 2016, conservative activist group Project Veritas video showing Australian nationals working for the Sanders campaign on the dime of the Australian taxpayer funded ALP.

Republican and former New Hampshire House speaker William O’Brien filed a complaint with the FEC shortly after Project Veritas made the footage public, alleging the ALP had made “prohibited foreign contributions” to the Sanders campaign, according to WMUR.

The FEC levied the fine against the Sanders campaign in a Feb. 2016-issued conciliation agreement.

The ALP contacted the Sanders campaign according to the FEC and asked permission to allow Australian nationals to be inserted into the campaign as volunteers. The Sanders campaign accepted the ALP’s request, despite knowing the ALP would be paying Australians a daily stipend in addition to covering the cost of their flights to the United States.

While volunteering with the Sanders campaign, the Australians engaged in political activities “including encouraging voter attendance at campaign events, recruiting volunteers, canvassing with volunteers, and planning events,” according to the FEC.

What so it ain't so Bill. The Democrats/Socialists WOULD NEVER do anything like what they are accusing the other side of doing. That would almost be like they are trying to divert attention away from them so that they get away free and clear.

A Sanders spokesperson said in a statement to WMUR that the campaign doesn’t think it broke any rules.

“During the course of the campaign, thousands and thousands of young people from every state and many other countries volunteered. Among them were seven Australian young people who were receiving a modest stipend and airfare from the Australian Labor Party so they could learn about American politics,” the spokesperson said. “The folks on the campaign managing volunteers did not believe the stipend disqualified them from being volunteers.”

“In order to avoid a long and expensive fight with the FEC over the technical status of these young people, the campaign agreed to pay the FEC a small settlement but did not agree that it broke any rules,” the Sanders spokesperson added.

what is the problem with their explanation of events? seems a totally plausible and non-malicious/non conspiratorial chain of events. it's not like bernie had a press conference and asked australia to hack into the rnc or anything.

if the russians sent student volunteers to aide the trump campaign? i don't think that's collusion at all, and it seems totally innocent in light of the various indictments surrounding the following:

"1) George Papadopoulos, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, pleaded guilty in October to making false statements to the FBI.

2) Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, pleaded guilty in December to making false statements to the FBI.

3) Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, was indicted in October in Washington, DC on charges of conspiracy, money laundering, false statements, and failure to disclose foreign assets — all related to his work for Ukrainian politicians before he joined the Trump campaign. He’s pleaded not guilty on all counts. Then, this Thursday, Mueller filed a new case against him in Virginia, with tax, financial, and bank fraud charges.

4) Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide and Manafort’s longtime junior business partner, was similarly indicted on conspiracy, money laundering, and false statements charges in Washington, and a plethora of new tax and financial charges this Thursday in Virginia. But he has now agreed to a plea deal with Mueller’s team, pleading guilty to just one false statements charge and one conspiracy charge.

5-20) 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies were indicted on conspiracy charges, with some also being accused of identity theft. The charges related to a Russian propaganda effort designed to interfere with the 2016 campaign. The companies involved are the Internet Research Agency, often described as a “Russian troll farm,” and two other companies that helped finance it. The Russian nationals indicted include 12 of the agency’s employees and its alleged financier, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

21) Richard Pinedo: This California man pleaded guilty to an identity theft charge in connection with the Russian indictments, and has agreed to cooperate with Mueller.

22) Alex van der Zwaan: This London lawyer pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his contacts with Rick Gates and another unnamed person based in Ukraine."

sanders campaign's explanation sounds completely plausible to me, and they paid the fine. they didn't deny and point the finger elsewhere.

Yep, and as usual in a deflective and defensive style the MDL brings up Trump in a thread that has nothing to do with him.

um, trump was involved in the 2016 election? cyberfx brought up russia. you brought up the excuse of ignorance of the law - which is a common excuse given for trump. why the hyper focus on acting like trump doesn't have folks investigating possible collusion and obstruction of justice? let's act like this bernie fine is a super big deal? sure.

Oh, I see, Bernie is so much smarter than Trump then if he was ignorant of the law, then Trump must have done so much worse.  I love reading the DNC talking points here on VJ.
