Hello, I'm back with more questions.

I just got my W2's and due to me having finished up college last year, I didn't work full time for much of the year and only made about $13k. I now have a somewhat better job that would put me over the minimum threshold to not need a person to cosign on my fiance coming from Australia.

My question is, do you show proof of financial responsibility using previous W2's? Because if so, I did not make enough money. I am unclear how that process works in the visa journey.

Thank you all!

Edit: I am in California petitioning for my Australian fiance to come here to the States.

Every Embassy or Consulate has their own rules.

I would ask this in the Australia section in the regional section in the bottom part of this forum.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

So.

You have choices.

You can opt for joint sponsorship if you can find someone who can supplement what you are missing, who wouldn't mind providing their W2 and sign an additional affidavit of support for your fiancé. Usually, family, but I think -- I THINK -- friends are fine too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

There was a recent interview in Singapore where the consulate officer (interviewer) asked the beneficiary for his bank statements because his petitioner-fiancé did not make enough for sole-sponsorship. When the beneficiary submitted his bank statements, he was approved. So you can ask your fiancé to provide her bank statements at the interview too.

(Disclaimer though: might just be a Singaporean consulate thing. I haven't had the patience to read other consulate reviews.)

Or I've read a couple of times there are many ways to prove that you have enough to sponsor the Visa. If you have savings, you can send your bank statements along with your W2.

Other VJers will have better advice than me. I never really had a problem financially... :/

Goodluck ! xx

if you didn't make enough on the current tax return IE 2016, and the upcoming tax return 2017 isn't going to meet the requirements, you can show the upcoming wages but they will still require you get a co-sponsor, or you can use assets inline with income
