I got turned away today (through phone) for my request for I-551 stamp because my extension letter does not expire until October.

Just to recap: I need to apply for Schengen visa to travel to Europe in August. The consulate stated that visa application requires proof of legal status within 3 months. August falls short just by a month of this cutoff. The USCIS personnel suggested that I obtain an official letter from the consulate that I will require the stamp. Has anyone encountered this situation before? Is it worth to speak to the consulate about this?

My extension letter will expire in August  2019, but I still was given a i-551 stamp in October last year, I filled for inforpass appointment online, printed my appointment out and took it to the Immigration office, I told them why I wanted it, for a job which they don’t recognize the extension letters. She took my passport did a finger print and gave me a i-551 stamp for a year.

I think you you should go to the office directly and explain to them.

Most offices now will turn away any walk-in.  Appointments are required.

I made appointment only, I didn’t walk in.

Right, so that was the issue for him/her.  Most offices now require that you go through USCIS call center to get an appointment scheduled.  You can no longer do it online for most locations, and this option will eventually go away.

What s/he said was that he called USCIS and they refused to schedule do him an appointment based on his current expiration date on the extension letter.

That’s awesome news @Koolos - congratulations!

My filing date was March 27, 2018 at CSC. I suppose I should see some update for my case soon - like before the end of 2019 😆  My status has been on “case received” for a long time now.
