Update I went in for an early walk-in appt the lady was a little peeved and told me that I'm supposed to reschedule by checking the box and mailing it back but I was worried they would reschedule during school again. She took my prints and picture and said only because it was a slow day... anyways I'm glad it's done and I didn't have to reschedule.

That's great! I'm glad it worked out for you.

Hey Everyone!

So long story short my GC is literally a few days shy of expiring and I just mailed  my I-751 ROC petition express to the Vermont Service center yesterday. We would've sent it  in earlier but due to our current financial  situation it prohibited in my doing so. I'm not fully in the loop of what is happening for 2018 ROC filers but from what I've seen most people are getting extensions due to the backlog?!? My main question is on average how long does it take to get an extension letter? I'm based in New York.  I'm still working and don't want to cause any trouble for myself or employer.  Also if a letter is sent to me does the letter provide further information on my case status? eg. receipt # to check status etc? I'm literally losing sleep as I'm usually a "go by the book" type of personality.  Answers would be greatly appreciated, Much thanks!

I'm not sure what is going on with the extension letters, but in March, they were pretty quick. I think I got mine within a week. They do give you a receipt number which you can use to track your case. As long as it gets there before the expiration you should be fine.

you should be good man. My GC expired and I am out of job since contract got ended. but none of new employers asking for GC or extension letter. all they need is social and that should do it. me personally and lot of folks here followed this approach :-

1. track the package with tracking number provided.

2. once you know it has been delivered via tracking number

3. next to keep checking if your cheque is cashed

4. once cheque is cashed the picture gets more clear

5. at this point you start anticipating the extension letter will comes through (usually it comes within 10 days once cheque is cashed)

6. once you have letter in your hand it has the receipt number on it and you create an account at https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/

7. put that receipt number and keep checking every fifteen days or so

8. for a lot of folks biometrics was waived and they received letters for same from USCIS

9. if not you might receive date for biometrics

10. and thats where all of us at this point

my 10 cents man. hope this helps easing of that sleep situation.
