I have a question. My passport just expired last January and I just noticed it after sending in my application. I know it's not a requirement on the i-751 instruction but most people send it anyways and its also on the sample cover letter.

So do I have to renew my passport or it doesn't matter?

Mine is expired too and I didn't include a copy of passport in my package as it was not one of the requirements.

Quick question, if we want to travel internationally what must be done before hand to be able to return back into the states. I saw something about getting a stamp in your passport. What stamp is this and who stamps it

You would travel with your expired green card with the extension letter you'll get from USCIS, otherwise if it's been a while , you'd need a password stamp (another extension).

Yeah I don't see anyone giving out RFE's for this if it's not required.  They have all our old packets too, so I'm sure they already have a pic of the passport.

Unfortunately, the DMV is a huge pain, and it really depends what state you are in.  See this thread for more info:

You can always defer the biometrics to a later date - I know people on VJ that pushed their biometrics back more than once, and it was fine.

Thank you Francais! The thread was very helpful. I'll let everybody know how our local DMV will deal with the extension letter once I got mine.

From what I can at least one person on this forum has received the entire package back from uscis thus, you should expect the same thing. I almost sent last year's form as well but I checked the last minute and found out I was sending a 2017 version.

I would start by transferring all the information to the new form and once you receive it you can just send it all back without delay.

Got the whole packet back today. New one will be going out Monday with the updated form. I am surprised it came back so fast because I was not expecting to get it until next week sometime!

3. Copy of Both of our Driver's Licenses with same address

6. Copy of Car Title, Bill of Sale, Loan Information, and Insurance bills showing joint ownership and liability

7. Declaration of Support from My Mother and Our Friend who has been staying in our house the last 6 months detailing that we are creating a life together and observation of that

8. Copies of our Wills and HealthCare Proxys

15. Pictures & Proof of Trip from 2016 Christmas when we visited his family in Mexico

16. Statements from Joint Bank Account (every three months) Opened June 2016.  (Is this an issue as we were married October 2015 - We didnt add him to account, but opened his own account and then combined)

17. Statements from Joint Credit Card Opened August 2016.

I think that is it.  Does that look like a strong package of proof?  I know it seems like its a year wait for this process to happen, so another waiting period. Glad to have our fellow VJ friends here for support.

Great evidence!

For 10, try tax transcripts rather than returns.  You can request them quickly online and get it without any wait.

For the bank statements, do every single month rather than every three months since you opened it almost a year after marriage - the more financial comingling you have, the better!

I wonder if that would be a problem since we don't have a joint bank account. I've heard of a lot of others who were able to get approved with no RFEs. We don't plan to have joint bank accounts. Everything else, we have joint...

I don't think any one thing will determine the decision. It is the full review of everything.  Joint bank accounts help I am sure as it shows a commingling of funds and that is one type of proof, but if you other proofs other than that, they can still a pattern that you are living your lives together as a bona fide couple.

Just wondering how long it should take for me to get my extension letter?  I-751 package sent on March 7th and arrived at California March 9th, but still the check has not been cashed...should I be worried?
