Hi so today I received my congratulations letter or recommendation for citizenship. I am a female from London who immigrated to the United States 6 years ago on an EB1c. I had the most pleasant "interview" today in Santa Ana. The USCIS officer and I walked to the interview room and he asked me if I was hungry as it was just approaching lunch time. I said to him that I don't eat during the day only once in the evening and we proceeded to discuss diet tips! Then I asked him if he was from the US and he said,  no...I'm originally from one of the territories, and he asked me if I knew my territories I replied with Guam and Samoa. He laughed and said...well there's two questions answered! He then asked me if I still work for my employer. Then he asked me to write a sentence in English. He asked me to look into the camera and smile. He then asked if I had any traffic citations in the past 5 years, if my taxes were current, do I have a criminal record?! All of which i responded. He then asked me to sign at the bottom of the form. He then went on to ask me if I missed London to which I responded.. no way! Ha ha. We then got chatting about other things aside from immigration. And then he handed me a piece of paper and said... Congratulations!! I almost wanted to ask him why he didn't ask me any civic questions?! I thought that I had to respond with at least 6 correct answers?! As I have been studying them hard for months. So I was confident I would pass anyway.

So any how, does anyone know maybe WHY he wouldn't of asked me??!! He mentioned he has been an officer for 22 years, so I hardly think he forgot? Is this usual? Has this happened before. He wished me well and said look out for your oath ceremony letter in the next few weeks.

That’s really weird, my interviewer was writing my answers down on the piece of paper with the questions on. Same with the sentence I was asked to read and then she initialed the page where I wrote the sentence.

I would be worried that someone would review the file before oath ceremony letter is sent and find this missing.

Also the territories is only one question,

I didn’t have my photo taken but this might be an office by office thing, when was your biometrics done?

The USCIS officer did say that they have never been so busy!! Can I ask what is an ROC transfer? And surely if it's only 10 questions surely it wouldn't be that time consuming?!

This past week there have been thousands of supposed ROC transfers from CSC and VSC to field offices, they have been so far behind and some people have been told its to play catch up, which means if its true that field offices are unindated with thousands of ROC cases.  It's only just happened and people are asking have our cases really been transferred or is it a glitch in the computer program. We shall know if this is true or not as a couple of cases have been approved, seemingly from the field offices, when they get the approval letters and see where the postal stamp is coming from.

Sorry ROC meaning removal of conditions of a Green card. You can find more about what is going on as it's quite a hot topic if you go to the removal of condition section. Basically what took around 6 months a year ago for the CSC center/centre is now taking around 16 months and the back logs are terrible. So I think USCIS decided to catch up, so I believe the field offices are overloaded, hence your officer was probably frazzled and overworked.  They haven't released a statement yet, however, as I said some ROC cases that were transferred this weekend already got approved.

Thanks for your responses.

My husband had a valid point he said.. Are you sure he wasn't just incorporating the questions whilst you was speaking to him? Come to think of it I seem to recall him asking me about the current party in government and other states I had visited. So maybe...??

Perhaps he did having 22 years experience, but its not the "norm". Even so it doesn't matter you have been approved. Congratulations!! Go celebrate! :)

I get it, I am the same I tend to question things, I think its excitement, disbelief, anxiety, are they going to take it back and a whole host of things that women mostly think about (mainly women). I totally get it. I would be querying it myself when I am expecting a serious interview with questions, but yes it is funny, in a kind way. :)

I am going to comment something I once read. I have not applied for citizenship, so I don't have that info first hand.

I read that a person said he was a US citizen in a government process after his interview, but before his oath. When he went to the oath, an officer called him and told him he was denied citizenship because he claimed to be a US citizen when he was not YET one and that claim was very serious.

Just in case please be careful. And congratulations!

I am not claiming anything or pretending to be anything. I simply asked why the officer, felt the need or in this case not necessary to ask me 6 questions. I might add also that he was a senior officer for over 22 years. I probably think he used his experience to draw a picture of the kind of person I am!  😊
