So I got an email from NVC this morning saying they hadn't received my case yet and to give it up to 8 weeks. But, you know, I don't trust anything so I called anyway and they have received my case today! Thank god! Still no case number, but I'll be calling every day starting next week until I get it.

how much time does a checklist add if we can get the 1 document to them with a week? would it add couple weeks after they scan it?

it varies. but the time resets to  "up to 11 weeks"

Yea see that's what I thought but the tax preparer said to file single ..I asked about filing married separately and he said how your husband isn't in US and has no ssn/itin so I am just going to be honest I will be attending my husband's interview so I'm not worried about it..

Some people get through fine, while others are questioned. Nobody knows for sure. But yes, I do really question so-called ‘professionals’ because there have been so many cases here of them messing up! Filing as married filing separately and spouse has no ITIN or SSN requires paper filing. They need to go back to school.

ur husband doesnt have to be here to file as married. im surprised tax professionals dont know this basic rule...u file separate without ssn/itin by NOT claiming exemption for ur spouse.

That is true. Yesterday I filed my taxes as married separately; But the tax preparer was not able to e-file and he did not know this earlier. I did some search and told him that he needed to mail it and write NRA for my wife's SSN. He should have paid me rather than the other way around :)

Hello fellas,

I would like to see advice based on your experience guys. Believe it or not, I am inquiring on what is the BEST way to make sure that my wife's interview does not take place before the end of June! Yup, you got it right! Though I feel so frustrated at this stupid and slow process, it seems it is best to delay the interview until the Supreme court decides on the ban placed on Syrians.

My case is a pivot one. From what I read, if I do not pay the IV fee, I still can get a CC , is that right?

I know I can delay submitting the IV docs; but it is too much of a risk and I am afraid I will get a check list and this will made the delay too long.

So what is the best way to get through everything and hold them from setting an interview date a bit?

My wife is Syrian and there is a Muslim ban that is not giving a visa of any kind to Syrians. But the supreme court is supposed to have a hearing this April and decide on the legitimacy of the ban by end of June (hoping they rule against the ban)!

Thanks in advance for any advice and wish you all good luck.
