My wife called the Moroccan consulate in NY to see if they had any more information. They said they couldn't help, but they did mention that Casa is holding Moroccan passports and there's no return for them yet. So if you were in the process of trying to get a tourist visa, they've got your passport, so you can't travel to another country to try their US consulate.

Well I dont know if this is any consolation at all -- cuz it really isnt to me -- but I also called the Department of State yesterday (as my petition was forwarded on May7th). I did speak with a very very nice lady and I told her that my husband is from Morocco and asked if she had anything at all that she could tell me about what is going on.

Here is what she told me:

1 - the employees are definately working in the consulate

2 - if your husband/fiance anyone going for a non-immigrant visa can elect to move the case to one of the other consulates (in the Morocco location - meaning no you do not have to leave the country) that are listed on the website (I think we all have seen this list) -- this is a possibility, however, this process takes approximately 2 months and the DOS feels the problem will be fixed before then.

3 - she did not know what the protocol would be once the consulate opens (will they reschedule in the order of the applicants who missed their interviews and forward or ?........)

That's she said -- like I said nothing much but I thought I would share.

Oh, ok, I see.

zakaria told me today that while he was watching the news he found out why it has been closed so long. the consulate was supposed to open last monday but some how the ambassador asked that the road be closed in front of the consulate for security reasons. they are supposed to open the news said on monday bc they wont close the road down all they said they would give them more security on the streets then before so inchallah monday yall.

It's Ok, Natalie. Honest mistake. Take it easy, girl! We've actually e-mailed Casa while I was there, last week and got an 'out of the office' auto-reply. Not sure if going there would have helped our case any, but my husband thought, it was worth a try.

I just wish they were open when I was there, at least I wouldn't feel so bad leaving.

My SO thinks it will be at least another week before they open. This will give the Moroccan gov't the chance to change the plates on the workers cars. He was saying that the news said the US consualte wants the tags on their vehicles changed so they don't stand out as working for the US consulate. I don't know. Just wish whatever needs done would get done so we could go on with our lives and get our SO's here.
