marriage license questions

Hey guys,

Hoping to file AOS this week, and we got our copy of our marriage from the county office in St Louis county. But looking at the copy we got, I'm worried and stressed out by it.

It's just our marriage license with a black stamp that says seal of the recorder of deeds.. Is this what is given instead of marriage certificate in Missouri? Is this okay to send?

Also, every where I look, I see that 2 witnesses are needed in Missouri. We got married at the court house in the county we got the license, and there were 2 clerk witnesses in the room where the judge performed the ceremony. However, it appears they didn't sign the witness part of the license at all. The marriage license only has the signature of the judge on it, and the witness section is blank? I feel this isn't right? Can anyone clarify this for me?

I can confirm that my marriage license became the marriage certificate once we had the officiant sign/date his part and the county "certified" it with a county seal as being recorded. So not a new document,  but a continuation of the license document. We had no place for witnesses to sign.

It seems like if those witnesses were required to sign, the county wouldn't have accepted it and recorded it. They would have sent an RFE:P

Thanks, so our license is our certificate?

Yeah it's just we read everywhere 2 witnesses are required, then we get our copy from the recorder of deeds, and no witness signatures! So slightly worried USCIS will not accept it or something lol. So you think it's all fine as is, because the county accepted it, filed it and have put a seal stamp on our copy?

Yep, your license is your certificate once it's signed and recorded.

I can't speak to the witness requirements. Why aren't you calling the county clerks office and asking them "is this marriage certificate legal without witness signatures"? They are the ones who know that answer.

It seems like although the state says two witnesses, in some counties that's not the case. (Scratch head, very confusing.) Maybe in the courthouse the judge is trusted to know that the witnesses were there?

Hey,

Thanks for replying! So, I called up as it was bugging me and stressing me out. Turns out, witnesses aren't required to sign the license if its a judge officiating! Phew
