you did say Texaas but also said does this affect my green card so we all answered

and although you have a hand gun permit,  does not say anywhere you can own a hand gun

i was not critical i advised to check your crimianl report (do it yourself) to see if having the permit is on there

it could cause RFE / trying to save you a future problem

i know all states are different / actually all counties vary in requirements

and 5 members of my family are in law enforcement from state trouper to FBI

and i read the ATF site and the US and Texas Shield Laws

here in TN when we buy a hand gun,  the permit is applied for at that time/ otherwise you don't have a permit without owning one

I am a student going to apply for a AOS/green card. I never said I owned a handgun. I said I have a hunting rifle and I happen to have my license to carry a gun. Back to my original question. Would it be a problem for me to own a legal firearm ? Would any questions arise during my interview.

and i said it could as according to my one cousin "things changed drastically after the foreign husband and wife team in California killed several with their car and guns" she said the immigration laws have not caught up but the immigration officers do look at "ALL INFORMATION" since that incident

and please,  only trying to help

get a copy of your own criminal report and see what appears on it

here it costs only $15 and worth checking

and may be legal in Texas but may appear strange to immigration

OP has not mentioned any crime that may appear on a Criminal Report, most people would I think know if they had done something that would.

This is not an Immigration issue, nor would having a Driver's License.

My sentiments, that person is confusing. I have spot free criminal record. I have a LTC which obviously requires and FBI background check. All I was asking was if they ask about guns on the forms or in the interview. Yes or no.Disregard that I even mentioned I have a license to carry. Even though legally on the ATF.GOV website I can obtain one( hence I did). I have done everything legally here in Texas to obtain a LTC ,hunting license and even purchasing a weapon all confirmed by the government agencies I contacted to verify.

i am not saying criminal but some states report on the crimianl report that you have a gun permit

so, would be wise to see if it is there as says nonimmigrant can not own a hand gun  .   he says he doesn't but immigration officer can and should wonder why the permit if he doesnt  own one / it could cause an RFE / also could cause a visit from Homeland security

I agree you are confusing the two completely different processes to own a long gun and a hand gun. Those are two completely different processes in EVERY state in the USA. So for him to buy a Long gun is a simple straight forward process that only requires that he have a state license, his green card, and a successful back ground check from the NCIC system.
The handgun process involves the Texas state police and a sign off from them as well in addition to the above.

THIS NEVER COMES UP FOR IMMIGRATION PURPOSES.

You need a State License in Texas?

In Colorado you need ID, your Drivers License, and part of the application needs your A number. if you are not a USC

A lot of states require a valid state license or id in order to buy gun in that state.

Not sure whether it affects your process, but they do ask this question on the I-485:

"Have you EVER received any type of military, paramilitary or weapons training".

I DO not have a green card yet I am still a student on F1 status getting married to my fiancée in 2 months .I am able to purchase guns legally because 1. I have a hunting license 2. I have been living in texas more than 90 days. Those are the only two requirements to purchase any firearm. Confirmed with 2 government agencies. Just wanted to know if they ask if I ever bought guns in an interview or on the form.

Thanks

No, they don't ask that at all. I already assumed you are a resident and that's why I said to the other poster that it is perfectly legal what you did. But no they don't ask that and don't go to far in the weeds like Trinity is saying because it will just open up a can of worms you don't want.
