Every time a new ID was brought out we were told it would combat fakes.  Always someone willing to do whatever it takes to defeat it.

None has been as stringent as  this one. Each one gets harder and more expensive to forge. People will mangage to defeat the border wall too, but you don’t speak out against that.

A wall won't stop all people from entering the country illegally, yet you want to spend billions building one. Like it or not, it appears many people are starting to recognize the issue with young people and firearm access. Unlike the wall, I guess time will tell if any of these firearm restrictions help, because they appear to be moving ahead with this.

Has anyone ever said that a wall would stop all people from entering the country illegally?

You're really not very good at this, are you?

Nice personal attack.  Remember, the VJ TOS should be your bible.  But to answer your question, I said the whole 21 thing by Walmart and I forget the other retailer was pointless due to kids being able to fake any ID today.  Your response logic was that this was hypocritical of me since I am in favor of limiting illegal immigration by building a wall.  Well, you are correct, it is hypocritical of me, so I am coming over to your side, I am now all in favor of these gun laws and self imposed retailer restrictions just as I am in favor of limiting illegal immigration with a wall.  I assume you would not want to be thought of as a hypocrite, so you must now be in favor of a wall.  See logic.

Some would say I'm deflecting, but the point is, if you support building a wall (I don't), the expectation is not that it will eliminate illegal immigration, but you are hoping it will reduce it in an area where it is most apt to be exploited. The same point applies to firearms restrictions. In reducing access to firearms for people under 21, you are looking to prevent misuse of firearms in a demographic that is statistically more prone to it.

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Where did I make a personal attack? You downplayed Real ID, I compared it to the wall.

You didn't, I was referring to another poster.  I should have clarified to disregard the first two sentences of my response above to now being a born again, non-hypocritical MDLer!

You tried to construe what I posted into saying that I support building a wall. I said nothing of the like. I'm sorry that was a fail on your part. There's no personal attack in pointing that out that you are wrong.

Two things... First, young people have had access to firearms for at least the past 40 years.  So that’s not really the issue, and moving the goal post won’t really make much of a difference (my opinion).

Second, even if it does, it will take 15-20 years to see a difference, or a decline in the 300 (or thereabouts) killings by so-called “assault rifles”.

Unless you turn it into an insult, which you did.  (And do on a semi-regular basis, if you’re looking for an outside opinion).  You could have said, “I am not now, nor will I ever be in favor of a wall,” in response to his post, and you would have answered his question and NOT insulted him.  I know it’s tempting sometimes, but it CAN be overcome, if one but tries.

You’re correct.  Now, let’s look at the big picture...

1) How many so-called “assault rifles” account for many deaths in the US annually?

2) How many of these “assault rifle” murders committed by people aged 18-21?
