Hi there,

I know there has been many questions about police certificates but I am so confused, you guys :(

  • According to the US Department of State, I need a police certificate from a country I lived in for 12 months or more. I am Czech and I lived in the UK from  9/29/2013 to 9/27/2014. That is technically NOT even twelve months but...  Does anybody have a similar experience?

  • Also, I lived in the US for two years on J1 visa but that doesn't mean that I was a "resident", or does it? I wouldn't need my American police certificate as a "resident"

I will be grateful for ANY information, thank you so much

Hello,

I remember during my time of filling with my wife. I was asked to get a police report from the country I was living that time, which is the Republic of Georgia. I went to the police head office and get it. It doesn't matter if you spend 12 months or 5 months in the country all they want to know is that you are not wanted in that country for any crime. I stayed in the Republic of Georgia lawfully for 8-9months.

Advice: Go to police station and ask for a police report. They will check their data base to know if you are not a criminal and issued you a certificate. You might need to pay for the certificate but I am sure they will give you the documents needed.

I have the same question since I stayed 11 months in Germany and I read sometimes that they need apolice record for any country where I stayed longer than 6 months, and sometimes I read more than 12 months...

Does the documents depend on the embassy of our country? I'd like to know if I need to request a police record from Germany or not, my NOA2 has been approved 10 days ago.

Thank you for your help

I think its best to be on the safer side. If you've officially lived in any country that's not your own i.e. had a national id card, then its best to get the police certificate, and if you've spent more than 12 months in a country that's not your own Eg: while on a student or work visa, get a police certificate. We  haven't gotten our NOA2 yet but based on what I've said, I had to get 4 police certificates, which I've done. To me, its best to be safe than have your application delayed.

I think the rule is 12 months unless you live in the country different from your nationality. If I understand well :D

Thank you, guys! I didn't have the National Insurance Number in the UK so they probably don't even know I lived there :D but better be safe than sorry, right? I will get my UK police certificate and no need for the American one - well, at least something :jest:

Thank you very much!

I'm still a bit confused about the documents to send to NVC. Isn't it only for the K3 Visa? I'm applying to K1 Visa and sometimes I read that I will need to send the required documents to NVC and sometimes I read that I'll need to bring them at my interview...

My case is still at the NVC, I got my case number, invoice number and filled out the DS-160.

I think with the K-1, the NVC transfers the case to your local embassy, and depending on the embassy, you'll send them the documents or bring it to them at the interview. If you got your case number, they should be transferring the case to the embassy pretty soon. You could try calling or emailing the embassy.

I checked the link you sent me + the Consulate page of my country on this website (http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=France&cty=Paris )

It states : Police Certificates must have been issued no more than a year before the visa interview, the French "casier judiciaire bulletin n3" must be less than 3 months old at the time of the interview .

Obviously I don't know how "true" this information is, but does it make sense to you or does anyone know if it's the case?

Because I have a recent French police certificate and a German one from last October, that is already translated.
