Guys, I have read a seem to be a tricky question. This question had been asked during the Interview. It goes,

”What would you do after you enter the United States?”

I am afraid I might answer the wrong one since we all know after we enter US we cannot work yet until our Employment Authorization Document is approved.

Any more answer to the question above? Would love to hear any comment from you.

Just tell them the way it is.

youll get married and learn about living in US, and planning to work once you get your work permit.

at least that's what I would say..

Simple... The answer is the truth... What will you do after you enter the USA?  It is a great question to ask your future spouse.  If your life is defined by working then you'd best not pursue a K-1 visa.  The USA is a big and wonderful place and there is so much to do and explore and adjust to.  But maybe the answer is as simple as I'll be busy planning for the wedding and settle into our home together.   The EAD to allow you to work only takes 2 to 3 months *AFTER* you file for adjustment of status (which is after you get married) so unless you plan to get married within a couple of days of arriving you're looking at 3+ months of not working.  (or leaving the USA) so again best to talk about this period with your future spouse.

I guess its a two way answer in a one question.  How about pursuing a degree after our wedding? Would that be allowed? What are the restrictions for it?

While I stand by my comment that this is a serious discussion you and your future spouse should have there are some other suggestions:

1) If your spouse has the means then traveling in the USA is an excellent option to spend some time after a stressful K-1

2) There are no restrictions on you looking for a job and ascertaining what skills you might need to fill those job roles and there is no shortage of education options to get your skills to a point where you can maybe fill those jobs.

 3) There are likely to be options to volunteer locally

 4) There is the option to join a gym, a church, and meet people in your new community.  There may be local community colleges with all variety of classes..

-

And in answer to your question.... Yes, you can start pursuing a degree.  In fact, depending on how much time you have left before your visa approval you may be able to start in Hong Kong at the Open University of Hong Kong and then transfer any credits you earn.   You can't work for money and you can't volunteer doing anything that would normally be a paying job that you would displace a paid worker by doing for free.

-

But, again, this is about your future and the question if asked is likely more to find out about how much you and your future spouse really know each other and have talked beyond the immigration process than it is about trying to trap you into saying you'll be working

I wasn't aware that working or looking for a job was a requirement after entering the US on a K1.

Some people like myself, having my fiancé look for work or find work wasn't even on the radar. I planned on giving her about a year to adjust to the USA before looking for work.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

That’s so nice of you. It isn’t a requirement but ofcourse that depends upon what you and your fiancé/é have talked about. If she wishes to work she can apply for EAD.

I think that my fiancé would probably tell them that he will be looking for a new apartment for us to move to since mine is too small.  He will also go to the credit union with me to look at making a plan to work towards home ownership.  We want to buy a inexpensive home for him to fix up if we can while he is unemployed or underemployed.  We want to do a lot of fun things with my kids, but that is going to be restricted by the fact that I only have a certain amount of vacation time and I'm using some to go to the interview.  He will want to do work on his portfolio (graphic design) at home so that when he is able to go out and work, he will have things to show people.  Maybe do some networking and find out what types of jobs he can qualify for with his background.  We want to get married almost immediately so that he can be placed on my medical insurance and we can file for the AOS so that he can work.  We do want to build a life that is more enriched than just living on one person's income.  If he has to, he will use my car while I am at work or in the evenings (after getting the work permit and the driver's license) and drive for Uber depending on the rules and guidelines.  Whatever it takes to get an income coming in because having a normal home and family life is important.  We want to be able to afford to take trips and see all kinds of things in the USA and go back to visit family members in Egypt on Advanced Parole and choose a pet and give out Halloween Candy and have barbeques, etc.  Just regular stuff.  But working will be important once it is allowed.  I make a really good income, but not to own a home and all the dreams we have.  But the biggest dream is just being together.  I don't think there is a wrong answer unless it appears you are coming here for a high tech career and basically used the petitioner as a way to get here to make big money and have an American Dream instead of for love.  And, they don't want people who might become a public charge on welfare so they probably like to see people doing something. Even if it is volunteer work or going to school or contributing to their household somehow (even in a non-monetary way).  I think people think there is a certain script that they want to hear.  If you are a bona-fide couple with good intentions, just be you.

I think that if my fiancé could, he would let me be the one to stay home.  He really feels he should be the one supporting me (I'm the petitioner).  But part of the reason he is coming here instead of me going there is that I really like my job and find personal satisfaction in it.  I probably would not be able to do much of anything in his country but be at home and be bored.  I would work two jobs if I could so that he could find something he enjoyed rather than take a job just to make money.  I hope that when your fiancée goes out to work, she finds something she really enjoys because that will make adjusting to a new country so much easier.  I hope all of our fiancés and fiancées will make lots of positive and supportive new friends from different cultures who will make them feel less homesick for the friends they are leaving behind!  It is horrible to go to a job you dislike!

Be truthful - as long as you are not planning to work without getting the proper work authorization documents, you are fine. Some people have the privilege of being a house wife / house husband and be financially supported with one income, but most will of course, have to work. I said I will eventually work as it is not very possible to survive on one income (especially where I reside) - and the officer completely understood and agreed.

Awww... you sound so loving and understanding ❤️. My fiancé(the petitioner) is so well rounded with his co church members. I would definitely make time hanging with them and make use of my time to our church. Godbless you @noraliz73

Too many words for a simple question. " I intend to live with my fiancee and get married within the 90 days. Probably much sooner! Then I plan to adjust status and apply for my work permit as I would like to look for a job and make friends and become part of my new community."  They are not looking for an essay.

PS. When my wife and I went for her interview we were asked how is the marriage going. My reply. " Typical marriage. Most days good, sometimes not, but we work things out and never go to bed angry". Approved.

I got the same exact question on my k1 visa interview my answer:

”Get married within 90 days of arrival, and apply for my adjustment of status. I would like to start working as soon as I can to support my future husband...and of course, enjoy my marriage  and my new life as a married woman” ( I didn’t work until my third year here because we got pregnant on our 1st marriage anniversary and my husband begged me to stay ag home with our son”

she smiled and proceeded to ask me:

”what would you like to work on?”

me:

”I’m a human resources specialist so I would like to keep working in that field if its possible”

those were my 3rd and 4th question of my k-1 interview and then she proceeded to smile and tell me “congratulations, I’ve no further questions your visa has been approved!”
