I know this has been asked before but I cannot get a straight clear answer.

I'm about to send my AOS & IV Package.

On the i864ez there are three boxes where you input the year and how much you made. I have transcripts for 2016, 2015, 2014 so thats what i included.

Today i tried to file my taxes for 2017 using turbo tax, tried to file Married filing separately but it keeps asking for my wife SSN. Long story short i have to print out the 1040 form write NRA for he SSN and send it by mail.

Being that it will take a couple of weeks for the 2017 tax return to be actually filed by the IRS do i just send the 2016, 2015 and 2014 transcripts??? Once she goes to the interview can i give my wife the 1040 form and W2 for 2017 in case they ask for it? This is so confusing and i cant even think straight anymore with all of these things. Thanks for your help

Well being that this is a topic where there are many opinions. I decided to go with married filing separately did it by mail filled everything in and for spouse SSN wrote NRA "NON RESIDENT ALIEN" as the instruction say on page 14 of the 1040 form instructions. It said that if spouse does not have SSN or ITIN to write NRA and file by mail. Once my wife arrives i will amend my return and file jointly. I have the 1040 form plus W2 and the certified mail receipts that i sent the documents in to the IRS in case my wife is asked for the 2017 taxes.

This sounds like the best way :)

@Henry&Olga Different people have different experiences and it helps to read all about them. Ultimately I would go with the one that best mirrors my situation :) I am doing it exactly like you are, by the way!

I was worried sick not knowing how to file. After a lot of reading through the forums that was my best option. Seems to be the right way to go about this!

I don't think there is a fixed answer. A lot also depends on who's looking at your case, I believe. I try to understand what the reviewing officer would be concerned about at each stage as well in order to make my decision. I submitted my i130 without coming across VJ and I was worrying myself sick that I did something wrong e.g. on the i130 form there is something about the last address that I lived at with my husband, and I thought since during the times I visited him, I lived with him at his place, so I should write that as the address. But then reading the forums, I see people saying that a visit doesn't constitute living... Anyway, it turned out to be a non-issue :D But who can blame us really, since this is such a long journey!

Exactly there are certain questions that throw you off but so far no problems! :P except that when i did my i130 i forgot to include two passport photos of me that got me an RFE

I have one simple question. Okay!

I plan on filing my tax return this month March 2018. My wedding is set for April 14, 2018. Do I file still tax as single and not married filing separately??

Yes. Single.

My USC husband and I are still waiting for our NVC case number, so it looks like we'll only be able to send in the AOS after April 17. My husband has not yet filed taxes for 2017; he will before the deadline, though. Question: Say we send the AOS on April 20, but my husband only filed on April 17. The transcripts won't be ready yet, will they? Will NVC still expect the 2017 tax transcript, even though we're only three days past the deadline?

Seeing that he hasn't filed yet, and it's only ten days to go to the deadline, would you recommend he file for an extension, just to avoid further delays at NVC because we might not be able to access the transcript in time?

You can submit the 2017 tax return with W2(s). That's what we did (just sent off packages on Thursday). I know some would advocate filing an extension, so it's really up to you :)
