Hello All

I am green card holder from California. submitted my I-130 October 2nd and got notice of receiving the documents. Since then nothing has changed online does anyone know what is going on and how long will it take to move to the next step (NVC)? And how long will NVC take to transfer the case to local embassy?

thanks

First of all, if you submitted your paperwork in October, you are an October Filer. The waiting time for NOA2/Approval of i-130 has gone up to 14 months. You should have received a NOA1 though. Currently it will take between 2 and 3 years until your spouse will receive a GC.

What does NOA stand for?

how does it take for a citizen to bring his family?

Hi Hameed, and welcome

NOA stands for Notice of Action, that's the official name of the letter USCIS sends when you file a petition, and on other instances as well. If you see NOA1, it means the first one, that gives you your priority date, and confirms you filed a petition. The NOA2 is followed by a congratulations in this forum because it is how we call the Notice of Action that confirms one of your forms was approved, it doesn't mean the end of the immigration process, but it gets you closer.

There are different steps and waiting time depending on the citizen's family, if he/she is inside or outside the US, and more.

You can find all the Family Based sections on the forum here:

You should also check USCIS site on the matter:

March 17, 2018: Biometric Appt Notice received //  Appointment: April 6th

May 10, 2018: I-130 Approved  :D *But case sent to NVC*

NOA is nothing more than VJ vernacular for the notices sent by USCIS.  The official name of the NOA1 is "receipt notice" and the official name of the NOA2 is "decision notice".

Not true. A lot of people from November 2016 are still waiting for their approval. How can people from August 2017 have their approval already? I think you might have read about people who are married to US Citizen and not GC holders. My PD ist April 2017 and I am still waiting for my NOA2 as well.
