Traveling on dual foreign passports

Hello, 

 

I am currently waiting for the removal of conditions on an expired green card. I have a stamped on my Canadian passport.  

I have to travel to Brazil for work at the end of the month and I also have a Colombian passport. Will it be possible for me to enter Brazil with the Colombian passport while coming back to the US with the Canadian passport? 

I am asking because I already had a lot of issues entering the country with my stamped passport, when I travel for work and  without my husband. My last secondary check lasted almost 2 hours. The officer was not familiar with this "extension stamp" in lieu of a green card.

Is it legal to do this? Yes. Is it a good idea? Maybe not. You won’t have an issue leaving the US on either passport, and you have to use the passport with the stamp to enter the US. I think you’d be better off to do the whole trip on your Canadian passport.

as a second viewpoint, my husband has 2 passports, South Africa and Ireland.  When we travel to South Africa, he uses it to enter the country, but when we return home, he uses his Irish one.  Depending on the passport, you get more or less hassle.  At least in his experience.
