Consul did not look at all the docs but IR5 Visa approved?

Hello,  my mom just went thru her interview yesterday and she said she was told she passed and was given a number to confirm her passport delivery address.  She was so surprised tho because the consul did not look at some/most of the docs they asked for in the letter they sent like my husband's W2.  I am the petitioner but filed taxes jointly so they sent a letter asking for his W2.  They also did not take or even look at the police clearance  that my mom got in Japan.  Yes she even flew to Japan just to make sure she got the police clearance back really fast because the wait in Manila was about 3 months.

Anyway she says the consul was really nice to her and asked some questions and seemed satisfied with everything she said then they took her passport and told her to call to confirm delivery address then she was done all before 9 am. She says she asked a Filipino lady who worked there if she was done. She was told, Ok na po so she says she passed. So we are all confused.  Did she just get a really nice consul who was not into too much detail?  Or are we going to get another letter saying she needs to submit more docs?  That would be annoying because she was right there and had everything on hand. She says there was a line there for returning the passports and she thought those people were denied so they got their passports back. So it is a good thing they took hers right?

Anyone else experienced this and how long does it usually take to get the passport back from the courier service?

Thanks!

Thanks!

First sign that she passed is did they keep her passport? If yes, that's a very good sign she passed. Second "she could have" ask. The CO does not bite.

Not asking for some of the required paperwork is not unusual especially if the case is pretty much straight forward, which sounds like your mother's was.

No one can say with any certainty when you will get the passport/visa.  We have seen one day, and two weeks which is the norm and we have seen 6 months and beyond. If you look back in the last week you will see where this question has been asked 4 times. How long does is take? Now you know.

Relax and have some patience. You'll know something soon I am sure. Check your status over at CEAC.

She did say she asked the consul if he wanted to see the docs but she was told no need.  We just found it so odd because we expected them to be more through than that.  Yeah I guess her case was easy.  She has been flying to the US since 2003 as a tourist to visit us and has never overstayed her visas.  The only snag we hit was her having to do the 8 week sputum culture thing which she passed.  She was asked why don't you want to keep using a tourist visa?  She answered well I want to stay longer than 6 months!  Ok i will breathe easier since they took her passport.  Thanks for answering!

One more thing...I think her medical expires in May..Is she able to fly to the US with an expired medical if we are forced to wait a while for the passport back?

You probably will not encounter that issue. I believe based on what you have said, you'll have her visa within two weeks.  Just avoid any more delay's and get her to the US before the visa expires. Follow the expiry time on the visa and she should be on US soil before it expires to avoid any more hassles. Safe travels to your mom. You guys have gone through a lot so treat yourself to a special MEAL when she arrives.

Sigh of relief!  Thanks so much for taking some of my worries away.  Yes we all go thru so much to get all this done so the day she arrives again will be a really special day so we will go out and celebrate :)
