AOS interview - photos from wedding/reception?

We are getting ready for the AOS interview (we are adjusting from K1).

Can we show photos of the reception we had in my home country (before I got the K1)? While we didn’t get married in my home country, but later in the US, the celebration in my country was the big, fancy thing for us, I got a fancy dress, my husband wore military uniform, we invited more of our family and friends than to the US wedding, we have fancy portrait pictures from that celebration. The legal wedding in the US was much smaller and no fancy at all, it was just a legal thing for us. So my question is if I can bring fancy photos from our abroad celebration to the GC interview without raising suspicion that we actually got married abroad? And in case I just bring the pictures from our US wedding, wouldn’t they be suspicious why we didn’t put the effort into a fancy wedding?

While it may have been just a 'ceremony', I wouldn't even show those... I mean, to some degree maybe wouldn't matter at all with an explanation; but why bother even?

We did court house ceremony with like 5 people there and a dinner after... didn't even put any photos in the AOS packet ourselves.

Sometimes too much information is a bad thing. Keep it simple.

No.....Nothing requires that you had a "fancy" US wedding........but you might raise suspicion if it appears you had a previous "wedding".    I would omit anything that might be interpreted as a wedding before you entered the US.

I'd strongly advise to take as many photos as possible which evidence your bona-fide relationship. The IO may not ask to see them, but it certainty won't hurt to have them should you be asked to provide proof of your relationship.

  • We brought our wedding album (and 4 or 5 other pictures) to our interview, bank statements, credit cards, beneficiary statements for insurance policies to our  interview, co-signed loans for cars.

And what others had said about anything that could be interpreted that you were married before you entered on a K1. You may not want to include. Of course you never want to lie but you don't need to bring up something that might appear to be something it was not.

Our interview was about 2 weeks ago.

The IO asked if we had anything we wanted to show her and this is where we should the pictures and statements. She glanced quickly at the pictures and looked at about 3 pages of the wedding album. She asked a lot of questions about our bank statements and co-signed loans though. I think just showing we had some pictures were good enough, Our IO was more interested in how we co-mingled our lives. Every one has a different experience but pictures were good to just have to have the other things seem to be of more interest to our IO.

Good luck in your interview! I agree with what others have said. In our own interview experience, we took our wedding photo album, and a 'timeline' of our relationship with photos and social media posts etc., but the only thing the IO was interested in was the co-mingling evidence. They looked through our joint banking info, health insurance papers...and didn't look at the photos. It felt good to have them, just in case, but the focus was definitely on the co-mingling evidence.
