Yes!  And getting back through customs was no issue at all.  Our extension letter(s) are about to expire (husband and step son), and we're headed to Ireland this summer, so it'll be a hoop for sure, but easy.  My stepson visits his mother in England every summer, and travels alone, and it's also no issue.  Edit to add:  he's gone to London twice on the letter, and flew through customs.

 

As for the mortgage mentioned, we thought the same about a car loan, but it was no issue.  No mortgage for us, and I get the inefficiency of the USCIS to send the green card to the right address.  That's something to risk, I suppose.  But again, it's not actually keeping anybody from moving.

Thank you Tina and John. So the expiration of the extension letter is the expiration on our conditional green card right? Not the one on the notice? Did the immigration officer asked you a lot of questions when you came back?

-Unable to use global entry that has been paid for

-Having to visit secondary every single time you re-enter the country.

-Unable to check in online for certain airlines. 

-Having to mess about trying to secure an infopass appointment 

-Some clueless staff (not just airlines) who don't know what the extension stamp/letter is

-Being unable to produce a valid permanent resident card and the extension letter/stamp look totally DIY, causing questions about your status

-Employment authorization issues by clueless HR staff 

-Not being eligible for certain jobs until your conditions are removed (USPS for example)

-Filing AR-11s that don't actually update the address and you then miss mail (interview letters/RFEs that get sent to the old address)

-Receiving a short notice interview notice when travelling/scheduled to travel

-The possibility of receiving a denial out of the blue, even worse if it happens when you might be out of the country

-An RFE for more recent versions of documents you already sent

-Marital issues (divorce/separation) not quite being as straightforward, as you have to take into account immigration consequences

-Travel issues (mexico are funny about the letter and insist on a stamp / russia & india are bigger bureaucratic nightmare than normal, to name a few)

-Sheer lack of communication - you get your extension, biometrics and then NOTHING for perhaps a year. Not online, not in the mail, NOTHING.

-No communication whatsoever as to what you are supposed to do when the extension letter expires.

-Vague validity of the extension letter (admittedly this has been clarified on the letter itself since June 2017 but wasn't prior to that)

-Issues with mortgages

-Issues with apartment/house rental leases

-Issues with car leases 

-Being told completely contradictory and conflicting things by multiple USCIS staff

-Being flat out lied to by USCIS staff

 

ALL of the above (and more) can be found by people on here, including myself. Overall just the total lack of any feeling of security that you have in your adopted country that you are a lawful permanent resident of, is not great, and added to that you are at the total mercy of frankly awful and rude USCIS staff who might possibly struggle to qualify for a job at the DMV or drive-thru.

It is a massive issue that can and does seep into many aspects of life for a lot of people.

It's keeping me from moving because I want to receive my card.

I've received a I-797C Notice of Transfer in the mail today. The transfer is dated 03/07/2018 and the address on the envelope was the California Service Center. The notice of transfer states the following:

 

"We have completed a preliminary review of the application or petition (("your case") listed above. As part of standard processing, we transferred your case to the USCIS office listed below that has jurisdiction for your case. That office will notify you in writing when they make a decision on your case or if they need additional information:

NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER, P{O BOX 648005, Lee's Summit, MP 64064".

 

Here's a reminder on my case, which is a regular, non-military, non-waiver ROC:

 

Applied I-751 to CSC. NOA1 February 21, 2017

Biometrics in March 2017 and then nothing until last week.

 

Applied N-400 online on February 18, 2018.

My biometrics appointment is tomorrow (March 13, 2018)

 

February 25, 2018: I-751 receipt number mysteriously 'activates' with 'We received your case'

February 26, 2018: 'We received your case'

March 5, 2018: 'We received your case' although that update has disappeared out of the history.

 

March 7, 2018 around 1pm:  I got bombarded with 10 text messages and 1 email saying they had updated my case (I-751 number). My case status changes to:

 

Case Was Transferred And A New Office Has Jurisdiction

On March 8, 2018, we transferred your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number WAC17XXX, to another USCIS office. That office now has jurisdiction over your case. We sent you a notice that explains why we moved your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by April 7, 2018, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addre

 

 

When I call the automated case checker line it says it's been transferred to CSC????:"

 

On March 8, 2018 I get another update but it's the same thing.

 

 

Anyway, looks like my case is on it's way to the NBC,  and I suspect after that it'll be transferring to my local office. I'm guessing this is for a combo I-751/N-400 interview?

 

I have a Mis-Infopass tomorrow, so I'll ask and report back.

@Derwood Congradulations. Any movement on your case is GOOD movemet. I suspect the rest of us that received tranfer notices may start recieving mail as well I think...or rather I hope. (Since the websites say we should recieve a notice by 3.27). Keep us posted. Best of luck

Hopefully. Only bad news is that NBC processing times dont have I-751 listed haha maybe they change it on the next update.

The NBC is basically the service center that transfers cases to local offices and schedules interviews.

Congrats on that. You were obviously transferred to NBS only because you have pending N-400 so this way they just consolidated  your cases together.

Maya2015 I am also from Germany  we filed our I 751 back in October 2016. My status changed too from 26th of Feb to March 5th 2018. 

I guess my lawyer called them and all he told me was to wait for the next 30-60 days. Really strange. I first thought it will be an interview since the case was transferred I doubt it by now. I do hope my case will get approved otherwise I will have to get another stamp in my passport again.

  Yes, two times already to Germany and Austria. I took my expired green card, ext. letter and stamp in passport. No issues at all.
