Hi Guys,

I am an October 2016 Filer. My original NOA receipt number also says that the case has been received at my Local office. I have an info-pass appointment scheduled tomorrow to get i551 stamp ( in 2017 they gave me only a 6 months stamp). I will check with the officer there and update here. Lets see what they say now.

My Local office is in Chicago.

If you're feeling frustrated about it I would call USCIS  and ask them about it. Ask the agent if they will transfer you to a Tier 2 agent, and then you can schedule a call back from them. I feel better after speaking to an actual employee, so maybe you will too.

I will for sure as soon as I find time to stay on the line before they closed. Unfortunately I can't talk on the phone at work:(

Using an app, I tried to search for 500 cases around my case number. Out of the 500, around 30 of them are showing "Validation Error". This clearly means that their status was not updated to "Case received at local office"

Not sure if this means anything, but if it was a glitch wouldn't everyone receive the update?

Also, the 500 cases I searched are all CSC cases with WAC at the beginning and are all I-751.

What app is that?

Which app did you use?

I went online and checked around 20 around our receipt number.  All the ones that had a message all had the case transfer message.  The others were like ours - validation error.

I would assume that a glitch would apply to everyone.  Since I was seeing three different dates in my search, I don't understand how this would be a systemic, general glitch.

The cases that don't have anything may be going to a field office that has not updated receipt of the cases yet?

It would definitely explain why there was almost no progress at the CSC since last November. I remember the processing time was showing around July or August 2016 when we applied and it's hardly moved forward since then. So that's about 4 months additional delay on top of the existing 1.5 year delay at CSC. Maybe most of the employees were packing up cases for transfer and only 1-2 people were left to do the approving? Although that wouldn't really explain why VSC kept approving at a pretty steady rate all along though. Unless they just have a lot more staff and/or fewer petitions overall.

The status change could also be some kind of programming error. It's true that the 797 notice numbers are coming online gradually and with different dates. Mine went from being invalid number to Case Received at Local Office from one day to the next.

Several people mentioned the Tier 2 officers spoke of having 2 different systems they look in. I'm thinking the biometric number is the number for one system, and the 797 number is for the other system. Before now the other system status updates were not available for 751 filers, although they are available for other types of apps like 485. It could be that they are simply enabling the applicant to view the updates in this second system and somehow the wrong message is being shown as part of that process. There is some stuff on their website indicating that they are trying to get more online functionality available, like they are now allowing filing fees to be paid online with a credit card.

Anyway, who knows! Will be interesting to see what happens.

Edited to add: it also fits in with people hearing that there are going to be more interviews and people getting unannounced home visits from local officers which seems to be a new thing

What if a home visit happens when you and your spouse are at work?

Are you guys checking the receipt number of the extension letter or the one indicated on your biometrics? I read somewhere that only the latter on the biometrics shows valid data. For instance mine says validation error and only the biometrics receipt ID (CR89) serves any valid info.

I never received biometrics letter (probably because they took it in 2015). Few months ago I tried to use number on extension letter to check status and it gave me an error, like it's not found. Today I check the status again using extension number and it sais docs received by local office.

I called up USCIS helpline, I wanted to talk to them before I go for the appointment. I was just told that they have transferred the case to the local office to increase the efficiency how they handle the cases. Anyways will see what happens tomorrow.

I've read elsewhere on VJ that those whose receipts number were showing "Validation Error" shortly afterwards had approvals and card in production messages.

AOS from F1

11/18/2014: NOA 1

12/11/2014: Biometric Appointment

01/16/2015: NOA 2

02/27/2015: Employment Authorization Card Received

02/27/2015: Interview

03/09/2015: Green Card Received

As far as I can tell, those people were March and April 2017 VSC filers who were due to get approvals anyway based on VSC processing pace. So that actually makes it less likely that the cases were really transferred.

I never really thought about this issue before as we have no common red flags, but how would one verify that USCIS agents really are who they say they are?

I don't mind a home visit in general, we have nothing to hide, but here in NY we get a TON of scammers.  All of the major utilities companies here have verification phone lines to make sure an employee really is who they say they are, but I was unable to find something similar on the USCIS website.
