Kerik: Broward Sheriff Should Resign

I kind of have mixed feelings on this. On one hand these officers took on the job knowing full well they might be called on to put their life on the line some day and they allegedly neglected their duty. On the other hand none of us could say what we would do in that situation with out actually facing it. What do you guys think?

Facing a bad guy with a booming gun is no small challenge, as you know.  But from what I read, those 4 officers (the one on guard duty plus the first 3 deputies on the scene) acted a bit cowardly.  None made any attempt to even get close nor try to take out the shooter.  I understand minimizing risk to one self (make the enemy die for his country, and all of that), but if you’re paid to protect and defend, I think you should at least attempt to do the job.

 

I’d like to think that if called upon, I would at least advance and try to take the shooter out.  But as you alluded, no one really knows what they will do when the SHTF.

I will give one thing that may be possible, not saying it is. IT may be SOP, that in a situation like that, there may be certain tactical parameters that must be met before officers rush into a unknown situation, not knowing how many shooters or where they are. 

 

I am sure if there is, we would not be hearing about it in the news.

  What's the rationale behind having sheriff resign?  Maybe if an investigation shows there are training issues or if protocol was not routinely followed, but otherwise it would seem to be something the deputies  involved would have to answer for.

Agreed, there has to be an investigation into the Department, their training and staffing practices and the Sherriff before anyone is forced to resign.

This outspoken survivor "that must be listened too" suggests the Florida governor since he is essentially the boss of the sheriff.  I suppose tomorrow it will be Trump since he is essentially the boss of Rick Scott.  Apparently, this rocket scientists doesn't realize that the sheriff is an elected official as well.

In the past couple of years it seems that mob mentality rules in this country. Both actions against the Sheriff and the NRA fit this notion.
